When she’s not shamelessly playing the “progressive WOC” or “incitement” cards in order to shut down her Republican critics, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) spends a good deal of her time on social media, on podcasts, and in interviews talking about how selfless she is, how she’s willing to take one for the team in order to advance the progressive/socialist agenda, and how she ran for Congress to do the work of The People™.
But in light of the (overblown) allegations that President Trump engaged in quid pro quo with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky back in July, AOC is demanding other Democrats step up and make even bigger sacrifices.
In an interview on CNN Wednesday night, the freshman Congresswoman told prime time anchor Chris Cuomo that Democrats in vulnerable House districts across America must be willing to make the ultimate political sacrifice in order to impeach Trump (bolded emphasis added by me):
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., argued on Wednesday night that Congress should pursue the impeachment of President Trump despite its unpopularity among voters and “put our country first” before their jobs.
“I personally do not believe in fulfilling my obligations to my job based on polling data,” Ocasio-Cortez said on CNN. “I think we need to do our job and we’ve been elected and sent here by the people of the United States of America to fulfill all of our obligations under the Constitution of the United States.”
[…]
“I think the ground has shifted. I don’t believe in making decisions based on polling,” Ocasio-Cortez continued. “I believe in our ability to organize the public, to educate the public, to talk to the public about why not just we as members of Congress much impeach the president but why all people in the United States of America must recognize and understand that need to put our country first before our consideration of reelection. And that goes for members of Congress all the way up to the president of the United States.”

Ocasio-Cortez’s claims are laughable on a number of fronts, the most obvious one being the fact that she’s in one of the safest Democratic districts in the country. As House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said a few months ago, Democrats would vote for a glass of water with a “D” beside it if it was the nominee for Congress in AOC’s district.
In other words, it’s convenient for Ocasio-Cortez to urge other Democrats to make sacrifices that she knows she won’t have to.
Secondly, the national polling shows Democrats in those vulnerable districts are uneasy precisely because a majority of the people they represent are not comfortable with the idea of impeachment. AOC’s district, on the other hand, is deep blue, so it’s easy for her to ignore national polling because it doesn’t reflect what the overwhelmingly hardline Democrats in her district want.
So she doesn’t have to worry about losing her job as a Congresswoman by way of offending her constituents on issues like impeachment because they want impeachment, too. Duh.
But she’s willing to risk losing the Democratic House majority simply because she believes Orange Man Bad. That’s unhinged.
Then again, that’s … AOC.
