Failed candidate for Georgia governor Stacey Abrams (D) was in Washington, DC on Tuesday at a “Party for Something” event that was put on by the progressive group “Run for Something.”

The event was sponsored by a who’s who of liberal, pro-abortion special interest groups, including Planned Parenthood, NARAL, and Emily’s List. Naturally, abortion rights were a hot topic at the party.

During the event, Abrams gave a speech in which she hinted at “running for something” in the future, possibly even for president. She also continued to say that the Georgia governor’s race was “stolen” from her (which is just not true).

She also attacked Louisiana Republicans and Gov. John Bel Edwards, a Democrat, over a fetal heartbeat bill the governor has indicated he will sign.

Abrams tells crowd that there are elections in KY, MS, VA this year. Someone mentions the Louisiana elections. Abrams: “I’m a little annoyed with the governor of Louisiana. They’ve made some dodgy choices with abortion recently.”

There’s a reason why Edwards is at odds with his party on abortion:

The Democrat’s anti-abortion stance stems from his wife’s pregnancy nearly 30 years ago. A doctor discovered their daughter, Samantha, had spina bifida and encouraged an abortion, but the couple refused.

Samantha is now married and works as a school counselor, according to the outlet.

“In eight years in the legislature, I was a pro-life legislator, 100 percent with the Louisiana Right to Life,” Edwards said during a Thursday press conference. “When I ran for governor, I said I was pro-life and so that’s something that’s consistent.”

Here’s a campaign ad he ran while running for governor where his wife talked about being advised to abort Samantha, and how that was not an option:

Abrams is not a stupid woman in spite of what she says about the Ga. governor’s election. She’s also made it clear over the last few months that she doesn’t care who she offends, so I suspect she knows Edwards’s reasons for being pro-life and said what she said anyway.

But even if she didn’t, the Democratic party’s efforts at purging pro-lifers from their party has accelerated in recent weeks. And it doesn’t matter if the reasons those Democrats have for being pro-life are personal or not.

The governor is running for re-election this year. It will be interesting to see how his party’s purge-happy wing treats him, especially when and if he signs the state’s fetal heartbeat bill.
