Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson appeared before a House Financial Services Committee hearing Tuesday to answer questions on the conditions of HUD-subsidized housing. While there, Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA-7) aggressively questioned him and only seemed to want “yes or no” answers from him to questions he found deserved more than that.
Pressley also repeatedly tried to play “gotcha” with Carson during the hearing, but he was having none of it.
The Daily Wire reports:
On Tuesday, HUD Secretary Ben Carson had a contentious exchange with hard-left Congressman Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) during which she insulted him by telling him he was “unqualified” for his job and said he was “carrying the water of what I believe to be one of the most morally bankrupt presidents in our nation’s history.”
[…]
Pressley: Given your medical background, perhaps you could weigh in on the health consequences of failing to invest in safe housing. Mr. Secretary, since I am short on time here, yes or no: is stable and safe housing a social determinant of health?
Carson: Sounds like you have not been here and heard most of my testimony.
Pressley: Please just answer my question, reclaiming my time. yes or no. Is stable and safe housing a social determinant of health?
Carson: There is no question that housing is an important part—
Pressley: Yes or no?
Carson: There is no question that it’s a part of health.
She kept demanding he answer “yes or no” but he didn’t see it that way.

Pressley BFF and fellow freshman Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN-5) weighed in on Twitter after watching the video and posted a cheap shot about Carson’s answers:
Not sure he was fully awake, maybe he meant to reclaim his time back to sleep. https://t.co/t25Pta8bVY
— Ilhan Omar (@IlhanMN) May 22, 2019
Carson was most definitely not amused, and responded back to her today:
Since you brought it up… I know what it's like to actually be sleepy, especially after 18-hour surgeries and operating on babies in the womb. I hope @IlhanMN knows I care about all people, even those she doesn't recognize as having a right to life. https://t.co/BRl3ibSKM3

Omar’s response completely missed his point, naturally:
Homelessness rose for the 2nd year in a row last year.
55,000 kids could lose their homes under your watch.Being a brilliant surgeon doesn’t make you qualified to run HUD.
We need someone who values every living person’s right to dignified housing! https://t.co/iVwVQ3MStw
— Ilhan Omar (@IlhanMN) May 22, 2019
Or maybe she did get the point, considering her “…every living person” wording. Apparently a “living person” doesn’t include unborn children in Omar’s world.
Well done, Sec. Carson.
