Bring It: Freshman NY Dem Slams AOC's Green New Deal Lies, Dares Justice Dems to Primary Him

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) is not the only freshman Democrat from New York unafraid to speak up and issue challenges to her fellow Democrats. Rep. Max Rose (NY-11) is another one, and in a recent interview he made it clear that he believed her Green New Deal claims were a “lie to voters” and that the massive “socialist” plan was not necessary.

Fox News reports:

“This is not the time for milquetoast incrementalism,” he said. “It just isn’t. But with that being said, nothing about what I just said would provide a justification for a massive socialist economic policy platform. Just not needed.”

He dismissed the Green New Deal goals, such as job and housing guarantees, as economically unfeasible, saying the proponents of the deal are lying to voters.

“There’s no need to lie to voters right now,” he said. “We don’t need the Democratic version of ‘repeal and replace.’”

Rose defeated Republican Rep. Daniel Donovan in the fall elections last year, and is only the second Democrat in 30 years to hold the NY-11 seat. He made his remarks on an episode of MetroFocus, a PBS program.

He also was one one of the first Democrats in the House to criticize Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) for remarks made earlier this year that were widely viewed as anti-Semitic. Rose is Jewish and said again during the interview that he found her comments “deeply offensive”:

Rose: Ilhan Omar made comments that I found deeply offensive. I was the first to criticize her in the Democratic party and we’ll continue to work though to make sure these comments don’t continue.

You can criticize Israel. You can criticize Benjamin Netanyahu. That’s your right in this country.

Interviewer Rafael Pi Roman: That’s what they say they’re doing.

Rose: But we don’t have to do it while also raising anti-Semitic tropes. This should not be difficult.

Rose also said that he welcomed a primary challenge if that’s what Ocasio-Cortez and her Justice Dems group decide to do:

But Rose went on to slam Ocasio-Cortez following a story that she’s compiling a “list” of Democrats that will face a primary challenge from progressive Democrats for siding with Republicans in the House on an amendment to notify the federal agency Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) whenever an illegal immigrant attempts to buy a firearm.

“She’s going to keep a list,” Rose said, looking somewhat annoyed. “This is very simple because I’m not one to deal in subtleties. I think it’s best not to be passive-aggressive. If she wants to primary me, if the Justice Democrats want to primary me, I’ll lay out the red carpet. We can settle this at the polls.”

Rose is also an Afghanistan war veteran who received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his service. He also took Ocasio-Cortez to task last month for her criticism of the post-9/11 war to defeat the Taliban. The 11th district he represents is considered New York’s most conservative district.
