It’s no secret that CNN‘s Chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta and the White House are often at odds with each other. But today Acosta ratcheted up the rhetoric a bit with an unhinged rant about some questions that were asked at President Trump’s joint presser with Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.
Newsbusters‘s Curtis Houck provides the play by play:
In what was Acosta’s latest hissy fit for not receiving a question, Acosta attacked “a reporter with The Daily Caller right at the very end” who brought up the left’s extreme policy proposals.
“You know, it was the question was asked in a way that really teed it up like a game of tee ball here in the Rose Garden. The President was just sort of served up a softball there when he was asked, you know, whether or not the Democrats are advancing a lot of socialist ideas,” Acosta complained.
Reacting on Twitter to Acosta, Enjeti dropped the hammer: “I tried something novel. Rather than tell the President what was happening on a particular issue, I asked him to tell me.” What an idea!
Watch the full Acosta rant below (which Houck transcribed here):
The Right Scoop points out that, in Acosta’s frenzied haste to go off on the president and conservative New Media outlets, he (predictably) got a few things wrong:
First things first. The question about Democrats and socialism was not asked of President Trump. Enjeti asked that question of President Bolsonaro, who then answered it. Trump never addressed it himself. Maybe Acosta had some cotton in his ears or something, but he clearly wasn’t paying attention.
Secondly, the two questions Enjeti asked Trump were 1) if Trump supports the Democratic idea of expanding the Supreme Court and 2) if Trump supports Senator Josh Hawley’s idea that social media companies need to be held liable for the content that is on their platform. I didn’t think either of those were ‘tee-balls’ like Acosta suggested about the last question.
Clearly not “softball” questions, but assuming they were for the sake of argument, Acosta shouldn’t have taken issue with them – especially when you consider the pillow-plumping treatment he and the rest of the mainstream media frequently gave President Obama.
In fact, that’s what this is all about anyway. If Acosta and his colleagues in the Old Media press corps can’t ask the softball questions, then no one can.
