On Wednesday night, the Washington Press Club Foundation held their 75th annual Congressional Dinner and like the champagne, the jokes were flowing.
Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) had the opportunity to take the stage, and once he did, the freshman Congressman wasted little time zinging the mainstream media.
The DC Examiner‘s Zachary Halaschak reports:
“I was a little nervous trying to prepare for this, because they said, ‘Yeah, come make fun of Democrats, it will be fine,’ so I wasn’t sure, should I, like, start ripping on Democrats or should I rip on the press, and then I was like, ‘Eh, they’re kind of the same thing,’” Crenshaw said to laughter during his stand-up routine.

“It’s so easy to trigger everyone these days, especially if you mention President Donald Trump. I’m triggering some people right now,” he said. “Trip and fall? It’s Trump’s fault. Phone died before you’re finished calling your Uber? Trump,” Crenshaw joked. “You’re dating less, you’re having less sex? Definitely Trump’s fault.”
He started out by doing an impression of President Trump, part of which was also a backhanded dig at the mainstream media:
“Actually I’m going to start with a Trump joke — I want to earn your trust,” Crenshaw said, as he began to bust out his Trump impersonation.
Crenshaw mocked Trump for referring to Apple CEO Tim Cook as “Tim Apple” at a White House meeting with business leaders last week.
“I’m just imagining what’s going in the president’s head when he’s saying this: ‘Tim, he makes a lot of money,’” Crenshaw said, taking on Trump’s hand gestures and tone.
“More money than me? No, not possible,” Crenshaw continued, as Trump. “He makes the phones. I make the hotels. He makes tiny, little phones. I make big, beautiful hotels. What are those phones called? Apples. Tim Apple,” Crenshaw continued to laughs.
“Your brand should be your last name: Tim Apple,” Crenshaw, 35, exclaimed.
You can watch his full segment below. He actually did a pretty good job. He also talked about his stint on Saturday Night Live, among other things.
Though he poked fun at the crowd, which was full of members of the media, it appeared during the course of his routine that he won them over. For a few minutes anyway.
The very next day, he was greeted to this from his Congressional staff.
Not quite @MittRomney style, but got the job done.
