Georgia Dem: Fetal Heartbeat Bills Are Wrong, So We Should Regulate Sex Toys and Porn

A Georgia state Democratic party legislator thinks she’s gonna give her privileged male colleagues a taste of their own medicine by introducing a “Testicular Rights” bill.

CBS News reports:

The move comes after a Georgia House committee approved legislation last week to outlaw abortion after a fetus’ heartbeat can be detected, which is before many women know they are pregnant. Women in Georgia can currently seek an abortion within the first 20 weeks of a pregnancy. A heartbeat is generally detectable by medical professionals at around six weeks.

“HB-481 [The ‘Heartbeat Bill’] inspired me to see what the reaction would be from some males and male legislators if the tables were turned and we started to talk about their reproductive rights and organs,” [Democratic Rep. Dar’shun] Kendrick told CBS News on Tuesday.

Here’s Kendrick’s tweet from Monday announcing the proposed legislation:

The lawmaker told Rolling Stone she knows the bill has no chance of passing, but that the point was to send a message:

“I’m dead serious,” Kendrick tells Rolling Stone, adding that she expects a draft on her desk by the end of the week. The point, she says, is to “bring awareness to the fact that if you’re going to legislate our bodies, then we have every right to propose legislation to regulate yours.”

[…]

As a member of the minority party in the House, all Kendrick can do to register her disapproval — above voting against the measure, as she did last week — is put forward her own bill in an effort to highlight the absurd double standard Georgia’s women, and perhaps all American women before too long, are being held to.

In response to Kendrick’s revenge legislation, the Radiance Foundation called her out on her willful ignorance on the stark differences between fetal heartbeat bills and the one she’s proposing, oh and by the way did you know how abortion impacts black babies?:

Ouch.

As a woman who used to be pro-abortion but thankfully changed my views about the issue over time, I find these bills not only offensive but embarrassing. They just ignore basic science, and seek to confuse the issue by conflating the precious life of an unborn child with a man’s private parts. In essence, “feminists” are deliberately trying to dumb down the debate because “choice” and stuff.

The DC Examiner‘s Madeline Fry puts a finer point on it:

Obviously, having a vasectomy or getting a prescription for Viagra is different from having an abortion. Fortunately, we have made dramatic scientific advancements in recent centuries, and we understand that sperm are not human beings. The problem with the “let’s restrict men’s freedom like women’s and see how they like it” fallacy is that abortion is not just about a woman, it’s also about a child.

Many pro-abortion activists don’t believe or understand this basic scientific idea. For them, any discussion of about the relationship between the rights of a woman and a minor she carries in her body is just too complicated or else somehow designed as a ruse. In any case, the genetic science that proves the humanity of the child is just an inconvenient fact to be ignored.

Bingo.

But let’s regulate Viagra, sex toys, and porn – because that’ll show ’em, right, Rep. Kendrick?
