Infanticide, Anti-Semitism Issues Show Democrats Have Earned the "Extremist" Label

I’m so old I remember when we were told that electing Donald Trump in 2016 would cause a rise in extremism in America, and that everyone should be fearful.

As it turns out, they were right. Extremism is taking root in America- specifically, in American politics. And even more specifically in the Democratic party.

The Washington Post reported today on a major battle playing out behind closed doors in the House over the issue of condemning Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and provocative remarks she’s made recently that are widely viewed as anti-Semitic:

In a closed-door session, Democrats protested plans to vote this week on a resolution condemning religious hatred, a measure prompted by Omar’s comments last week suggesting supporters of Israel have “allegiance to a foreign country.”

On Wednesday morning, it was unclear whether there was consensus around passing any sort of legislation at all.

For Democrats, the internal divide over how to handle Omar’s statements has been exacerbated by members targeting each other on Twitter, where much of the public debate has played out — both among Democrats and between members of the two parties.

At one point during the meeting, Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.), a close Pelosi ally, pleaded with Democrats: “Everyone stop tweeting!”

So the resolution we thought we were going to see today is now up in the air, and there’s speculation we may not see anything the rest of the week from the House Democratic leadership.

How long does it take to put together a resolution condemning anti-Semitic bigotry, seriously? By comparison, it didn’t take Republican leaders long to go after Rep. Steve King (R-IA) over his comments about white supremacy last month.

Is this the way Democrats want to be viewed going into the 2020 election season? They won’t condemn infanticide, they can’t agree on “how best” to clamp down on anti-Semitism within their ranks, their socialist wing is growing, and let’s not forget that in 2012 the party boo’d God at their national convention here in Charlotte.

More than in image problem, they’ve got an extremist problem. As I wrote yesterday, I think Democrats in positions of power who actually want to do something to combat these issues are helpless to do so. That cat, as they say, is out of the bag.
