China Goes on the Counterattack -- Accuses US and Japan of Bio-Weapons Work and False Media Reports Akin to Iraq WMDs

China is not our friend.  The US and its Western allies are finally starting to come around to that fact. For those who haven’t, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a video earlier today that should be required viewing:

Make no mistake — these are official Twitter and YouTube accounts for the Chinese government, and the person delivering the statement is Wang Wenbin, the Official Spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry and member of the Chinese Communist Party. The allegation is that the United States and Japan worked together on continuing “germ warfare” programs that the Japanese were pursuing during World War II. The Spokesman asks:

[W]e are wondering:  when will all these mystery-shrouded bio-military activities conducted by the US come to light?  When will the US give the international community an explanation?

Not long after that video posted to Twitter, another video was posted on the subject of the “lab-leak theory” now being so widely reported in western media.

In this video, the Spokesman traces the development of the “lab leak story” to Wall Street Journal reporter Michael Gordan, who first reported that US intelligence had previously undisclosed information that three scientists at the Wuhan lab had been hospitalized in October 2019. The Spokesman calls Gordan’s reporting a “far-fetched” connection between three sick Wuhan lab employees and the COVID-19 outbreak. The Spokesman then claims Gordan’s reporting should be ignored because Gordan created false stories for the New York Times in 2002 supporting the Bush Administration’s claims that Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction, which led to the US invasion of Iraq.

Pressure has been building on China and the CCP this week as the scientific community is backing away from earlier positions staked out with certainty that the COVID-19 virus developed naturally and is not the result of work done in the Wuhan lab. The Spokesman refers back to a public statement made by Dr. Peter Daszak who led the World Health Organization’s investigation into the origins of the COVID-19 virus, who claimed the virus developed naturally and was not connected to any work done by the Wuhan Lab.

As we have documented here at Redstate, Dr. Daszak is far from an “unbiased” source on this issue.

Daszak, who has been extremely critical of the theory of a release from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, has suddenly found himself at the center of this growing controversy. Daszak has, over the course of the last several years, conducted numerous experiments with Dr. Shi Zhengli of the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Here is a list of research projects involving Dr. Daszak and the Wuhan Virology Institute involving bats and Coronaviruses similar to COVID-19.

Dr. Daszak was quoted in a Vox story on April 29, 2020, saying the following:

The scientists I did speak to all acknowledge it’s not possible to definitively rule out the lab-escape theory. “The trouble with hypotheses is that they are not disprovable. You cannot prove a negative,” said Peter Daszak, president of EcoHealth Alliance and a disease ecologist who has studied emerging infectious diseases with colleagues in China. Yet he also sees the lab-escape theory as “ironic and preposterous.”

This attack on the resurgence of the lab-leak theory and demands for an investigation of US-Japan “germ warfare” activities were previewed by CGTN — China Global Television Network — whose website ran a preview of the attack last week.

Those moves smell like a case of deja vu, reminding people of the days before the 2003 Iraqi war, when Washington concocted lies about Iraq having weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and used those outright lies as an excuse to invade the country, topple its government, and slaughter its people.

It is also noteworthy that Michael R. Gordon, the reporter who penned the WSJ report, had made up a 2002 New York Times report supportive of the existence of the WMD program in Iraq.

The old trick is back again when a new session of the World Health Assembly (WHA) is underway. Their ulterior motive in hijacking the meeting’s agenda and politicizing the origin tracing so as to build up international pressure on China is only too blatant.

Origin tracing is a serious and complex scientific issue. The task should only be done based on science and facts. There is mounting evidence that the virus was transmitted from animals to humans without human intervention. This is a natural phenomenon that has occurred frequently in recent decades.

The tracing should also be led by the World Health Organization (WHO); and more importantly, it must be professional, impartial, constructive, and free from politics or presumption of guilt directed against China.

China and WHO — where has that combination come up before? Remember this from Dr. Bruce Aylward, Senior Advisor to the Director-General of the World Health Organization?

Of course, China prefers the WHO to be the final judge of whether the pandemic has been the result of an intentional or accidental lab-lead of the COVID-19 virus in China.

WHO has always been reliable in the past when China needed to cover up its misconduct — even when it involved refusing to acknowledge that a country even existed.

Did I mention that the Editor of China’s state-run “Global Times” said earlier this week that communist China must prepare for nuclear war with the US?

Propagandist Hu Xijin made the statement on Chinese social media “soon after” Biden delivered the order to the US Intelligence Community to probe the pandemic’s origins, according to Australian journalist James Morrow.

“We must be prepared for a high-intensity showdown between the US and China, at which point a large number of DF-41 and JL-2 and JL-3 will be the backbone of our strategic will. Our nuclear missiles must be so numerous that the US elite will tremble at the thought of military confrontation with China at that time,” Hu continued.

China is not our friend.
