Kathy Hochul is an incredibly awkward politician. New York's Democrat Gov. tries awfully hard to up her street cred on social media, but she more often than not ends up taking part in material that is at best cringeworthy, and at worst, mind-numbingly infuriating.
Her video tutorial for New Yorkers on how to shovel snow, and the deafeningly silent response she got while trying to get a crowd to chant for her beloved Buffalo Bills, fall into the former category.
Her recent stunt donning a submissive hijab in front of Muslim men just days before the anniversary of the 9/11 radical Islamist terror attacks falls into the latter.

Hochul gives Hillary Clinton a run when it comes to a lack of charisma, and Auntie Kamala a run when it comes to intellect. Or the lack thereof. Despite giving off consistent "How do you do, fellow kids?" vibes, you have to give her credit in one aspect — determination.
The governor simply refuses to yield to common sense and just act like a normal human being. But her latest effort has left her committing an unforgivable sin.
Hochul somehow managed to make uber-cool Hollywood legend Kevin Bacon look like an absolute rube. She posted a video with Bacon to mark New York dropping an old rule that required bars and restaurants to get special permission to let patrons dance.
That's right. The State Liquor Authority will no longer make applicants disclose dancing or weigh that answer on an on-premises liquor license. It's an archaic rule that lends itself to instant mockery through the old plot for the movie "Footloose."
Yet, they still managed to make the announcement incredibly lame. Promoting the clip, Hochul works in some lines from the movie.
“Dancing? Banned? In New York?! Not anymore,” Hochul says with a stiff cadence. “Thanks to my administration, you can now cut loose, footloose and kick off your Sunday shoes.”
Bacon plays along, asking about the salsa and the Macarena, before busting out his own dance moves. It's bad. It's all bad.
Feast your eyes on this atrocity ...

Not anymore.

"That's right, Kevin Bacon!"
Because nothing says you're tight with a movie star quite like referring to him by his full name.
“Macarena?” Bacon questions. “Maca-no no,” Hochul answers.
Before he set foot in a bar with Hochul, Bacon had a long history of being viewed as a pretty cool guy. He broke out as Ren McCormack in "Footloose" (1984) after early turns in "Animal House" and "Friday the 13th," then stacked studio and prestige credits including "Tremors," "A Few Good Men," and "Apollo 13."
He's basically been everywhere.
His biggest individual prizes are a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award. Bacon has no Oscars despite his extensive body of work, but that really just helps land him in the cool category. As does the game "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon," which became a cultural phenomenon.
After watching him team up with Hochul, however, you end up feeling like you're six degrees closer to hell than to Kevin.
