FBI agents reportedly confronted former California Rep. Eric Swalwell (D) at San Francisco International Airport over the weekend and seized his electronic devices. The action was carried out under a search warrant as part of an ongoing federal investigation into sexual assault allegations against him.

Swalwell, who resigned from Congress earlier this year amid the accusations, was cooperative during the encounter, according to well-placed sources who spoke to the Daily Mail for an exclusive story

The one-time Democratic presidential candidate was flying to his home state from a residence in Washington that he shares with his wife and three children. Federal officials were waiting for him at the airport.

The outlet also reports that FBI agents "entered his (Swalwell's) house in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, seizing additional undisclosed potential evidence."

Embedded tweet continues:

... Swalwell was just exposed for being COMPROMISED by a Chinese spy! He needs to be locked up, plain and simple.

Multiple women, including a congressional staffer and at least three others, came forward earlier this year with sexual misconduct and assault allegations against Swalwell. The claims included unwanted sexual advances and unsolicited explicit messages, some of which allegedly involved nude photos.

Two alleged assaults reportedly involved the former staffer while she was intoxicated and unable to give consent. If the accuser’s description is true, these acts would meet the legal definition of rape. A thorough investigation is warranted.

Authorities in New York and California are also examining related claims.

The airport seizure would represent a notable escalation in the federal probe.

Swalwell has denied the allegations against him, saying the victims' accounts are "flat false."

"They are absolutely false. They did not happen. They have never happened. And I will fight them with everything that I have," he claimed back in April.

Within days, though, he had suspended his California gubernatorial campaign and resigned from Congress.

In addition to the very considerable legal ramifications he now faces in these sexual assault probes, Swalwell has also been wrapped up in an escalation of developments in his scandal involving a Chinese spy.

Newly declassified FBI files reveal that the disgraced lawmaker admitted to having a sexual relationship with Christine “Fang Fang,” a suspected CCP (Chinese Communist Party) intelligence operative, on multiple occasions.

The documents also show the FBI had evidence that Fang funneled illegal campaign donations to Swalwell through straw donors and placed interns in his office. Although agents initially investigated Swalwell for possible bribery and campaign-finance violations, they later dropped him as a target and focused solely on Fang, who fled to China without being prosecuted.

This was a man who once served on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. A man who constantly chastised President Trump and his supporters for alleged collusion with a foreign government, despite a lack of evidence.

The airport confrontation underscores how seriously authorities are treating the allegations. Swalwell now faces mounting legal peril as the federal investigation continues to advance.
