As the epistemological failures of Climate Science become as large and as heavily burdensome as the Texas-sized growth of Antarctic Sea-Ice since 1979, the shrill histrionics of the Climate Scientologists who continue pushing for carbon regulation grow tinnier. Be very afraid, grants, oops, I mean lives hang in the balance. If you fail to take action, you will die. It’s almost as if you had an alternative to eventually dying anyway.

Now listen carefully, class. The smart guy with the Piled-Higher-and-Deeper is here to condescend to the little guy. His name is Doctor Paul Ehrlich, and he’ll tell you how to vote this election so you don’t have to turn off the idiot box and ponder these things. His sage advice follows below.

You see, !Climate Change! could cause 100 Million deaths by 2030. You are all really going to die. This time, the experts aren’t kidding. Malthus, he may have been an over-brimming sack of fertilizer. Sanger may have just been pimping out her abortuaries. Ehrlich, himself may have been holding a dud with The Population Bomb.

But this time, they mean it! The 2nd Edition of The Climate Vulnerability Monitor has just been published by DARA. This is billed as “A Guide to the Cold Calculus of a Hot Planet”.

DARA claims that if there is a failure to act (read confiscate wealth and shut down industries) we will be losing $6.7Tr a year in world GDP by 2030. Lord knows how many EBT cards that could charge up.

Fortunately, Bjorn Lomborg is there to read the big, fancy words that Dr. Ehrlich can’t seem to wrap his 45 lb brain around. Of particular importance to this particular Climate Science version of Revelations is the term of art “the present carbon-intensive economy.” This allows the scaremongers to count all the potential deaths related “carbon-economy – and climate change-related” causes. That’s a fancy way of avoiding having to prove a 2°K temperature increase over the next 20 years will lay you out like Mike Tyson on an ear-biting rampage. Lomborg describes the rhetorical slight-of-hand below.

First, the report is seen to claim that “climate change deaths could total 100 million by 2030.” This is actually not what the report says. It carefully outlines how “the present carbon-intensive economy” is causing 4.975 million deaths per year as of 2010, and how by 2030 the “carbon economy — and climate change-related” impacts will kill 6 million people every year. Why the cumbersome language of a “combined climate-carbon” economy? Drilling into the composition of the 4.975 million deaths in 2010, one finds these deaths are not predominantly caused by climate change (only a few newspapers like theGuardian didn’t fall for this).

Lomborg then drills down into the 4.975M “ KIAs” per year alleged by DARA. 1.4M are from indoor air pollution. 3.1M per year die of indoor smoke inhalation. This leaves 0.4M to be sun-struck by the vileness that is Anthropogenic Global Whinging, oops I mean warming.

Lomborg concludes his review of the study with the following: “The DARA study uses a worst-case scenario, is full of sloppy errors, and promotes solutions that are hugely costly, haven’t worked, and probably won’t. And it’s based on scare tactics without foundation in reality. The climate debate deserves better.”

Perhaps the climate does deserve better. Then again, so does America. The people that peddle this doom and gloom from atop the plush know they wouldn’t last five minutes in any type of organization that demanded evaluable results. They accomplish nothing that is good and take much from society in terms of money and perquisites for their efforts. They scare you into believing they, and only they, can save the world. It’s the only thing left they have to offer to justify their continued government largesse.

This Comedy of Terrors would be funnier if it cost society a whole lot less. I don’t believe Global Warming will be the end. It will only be the end of America’s scientific establishment as a voice of intellect and reason if it is not summarily debunked and defunded.
