A treasurer for a local Phoenix Democrat group who has fundraised for Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes and Congressman Greg Stanton has resigned from his position on the board of Legislative District 12 following a viral video captured by RedState showing him hurling vulgar insults at two young women during a protest. The incident, captured outside a Zipps Sports Grill in Ahwatukee Foothills on January 26 in the aftermath of DHS operations, has sparked widespread condemnation and forced Democrats to distance themselves from one of their own.
In his resignation statement, which he read over the phone to The Arizona Republic, Mark Holodnak said he regretted "the manner I expressed myself" and that "these words do not reflect my values or intentions." He added:
"I would like to offer a sincere apology to the two individuals in the video. I do not want my actions to reflect on the good work LD 12 does. So I have formally resigned from the board of LD 12, effective immediately."

The resignation follows widespread outrage after footage recorded showed Holodnak and other protesters surrounding and angrily shouting profanities at two young women who had paused to take selfies with DHS agents in the background of Zipps Sports Grill, a Phoenix-area restaurant targeted in federal operations. In the video, Holodnak can be seen repeatedly chasing and berating the women before they escaped through a back alley. The raids, conducted by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) at Zipps locations across the Valley on January 26, resulted in the arrest of 35 undocumented immigrants as part of an ongoing investigation into unlawful employment of aliens, identity theft, and document fraud.
Holodnak served as treasurer of the Legislative District 12 Democrats and was also active as a fundraiser and bundler for prominent Arizona Democrats, including the office of Attorney General Kris Mayes.
Previous reporting by RedState showed Holodnak wasn’t simply a donor, but was a bundler who hosted fundraising events for the embattled Attorney General. Mayes herself has been engulfed in anti-ICE controversies due to her rhetoric warning that masked federal agents could trigger deadly confrontations under Arizona's "stand your ground" laws. Those comments drew calls for her resignation from Republicans and law enforcement groups alike, leading to her police liaison's resignation.
Her office created a taxpayer-funded website where Arizonans can file special complaints against ICE and other federal agents, including submitting videos and photos of alleged misconduct.
As pressure mounted, officials in the Arizona Attorney General’s Office publicly condemned Holodnak’s conduct and emphasized they have no association with his actions. A spokesperson for the AG’s office said, “The Attorney General does not condone his words or actions from that video.”
SPOKESPERSON FOR AG MAYES @djquinlan has issued a statement:

"The Attorney General does not condone his words or actions from that video."
They did not rule out the possibility of Mark Holodnak hosting future fundraisers for @AZAGMayes.
Soft statement in my humble opinion. https://t.co/0Hf4k5UheP pic.twitter.com/ekpZ4E3eca
The controversy also ensnared Democratic Congressman Greg Stanton, after an associate of Holodnak revealed to RedState that Holodnak not only fundraises for Mayes but also for Stanton, deepening questions about the congressman's ties to the disgraced fundraiser. Stanton strongly condemned Holodnak’s behavior in a text message, saying, “No matter the circumstances, this language is inappropriate. He should apologize."
Protests tied to immigration enforcement continue in Phoenix, with demonstrations planned in the coming days. RedState will be on the ground covering the developments in Phoenix as this story evolves.
