Failed Netflix Talk Show Host Chimes In On W.H. Correspondents Assoc. Nixing Comedian Headliner

Comedians You Should Know in Brooklyn Sept21 2016

The White House Correspondents Association tapped presidential biographer Ron Chernow to host the annual dinner in 2019. The dinner the media coined for themselves as “Nerd Prom” has in recent decades been emcee’d by a comedian or other Hollywood type.

Presidents have, for the most part, joined in the festivities despite it being a night where they and their administration are routinely mocked. While President Donald Trump attended the dinner prior to running for office, he has declined to attend since winning the 2016 presidential election.

The decision by the WHCA to move away from a comedian comes after — and one can assume due in part to — the utter disaster that was the last dinner, which was hosted by the tragically unfunny Michelle Wolf, formerly of the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. I mean, who could’ve seen that coming…except anyone with an actual sense of humor.

In a statement put out by the WHCA, Chernow explained his thesis will focus on the importance of a free press:

“The White House Correspondents’ Association has asked me to make the case for the First Amendment and I am happy to oblige. Freedom of the press is always a timely subject and this seems like the perfect moment to go back to basics. My major worry these days is that we Americans will forget who we are as a people and historians should serve as our chief custodians in preserving that rich storehouse of memory. While I have never been mistaken for a stand-up comedian, I promise that my history lesson won’t be dry.”

Wolf is not happy with the development, tweeting: “The are cowards. The media is complicit. And I couldn’t be prouder.”

Because, of course, the thing to do when you’re upset with how the president is treating the media the best thing to do is to…attack the media by calling them complicit.

There’s a reason Wolf’s talk show on Netflix failed faster than the Titanic’s design after scraping against an iceberg, and she continues to put it all out there in public as a regular reminder why.
