White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Thursday the president has pledged to donate $1 million of his own money to disaster relief in Texas and Louisiana in the wake of Hurricane Harvey.
When asked about specifics of the donation, Sanders said, “I’m happy to tell you that he would like to join in the efforts that a lot of people that we’ve seen across this country do, and he’s pledging a million dollars of personal money” to relief efforts.
And in a brilliant move, Sanders added that the President would love suggestions from the members of the White House press corps on exactly which relief funds would be worthy recipients. Not only is that a great way to make sure the money is going to those who need it, but it cuts off what would surely be a first line of attack from critics, who would likely hit him on whatever charity or organization he chose.
The president and First Lady will visit Texas and Louisiana again on Saturday.
No matter how you look at it, this is a good and helpful thing the President is doing.
