John McCain Jokes As He Counts His Blessings Following Cancer Diagnosis

One of the consistent comments from friends and family of Sen. John McCain (R – Ariz.) following his diagnosis of brain cancer last month are about his positive attitude and joy of life and encouraging those around him to be the same.

Sen. McCain took to Facebook to thank all those who have sent cards and made phone calls supporting him, and those who do not, saying,”Even those that want me to die don’t want me to die right away, so that’s good.”

Following McCain’s thumbs-down vote on the Senate’s health care bill in July, many Republicans lashed out, including Sen. Ron Johnson (R – Wisc.) who went so far as to suggest McCain’s brain cancer had affected his judgment on the bill. A statement Johnson has since apologized for.

Fellow Sen. Orrin Hatch, who has done enough in his much-too-long tenure in Congress to earn the ire of most conservatives in his own party, showed some self-effacement and quoted McCain with his own joke.

Attitude is everything and keeping one’s sense of humor can go a long way.
