R.I. School Reschedules Midterms So Children Can Protest Trump

The temper tantrums over Donald Trump being sworn in as President on Friday have been absolutely ridiculous, but this new one is slightly maddening. School children — that is, people who cannot vote and did not vote — have decided to walk out of their classes just before Donald Trump’s swearing in at noon that day.

Taxpayer money is now being wasted on these malcontent, Socialist-led protests. Not only that, the schools are enabling these stroppy children and changing schedules so that they won’t miss their scheduled midterms.

In Providence, Rhode Island, the walkout in public schools is being organized by Youth In Action, Inc. and Providence Student Union, each of which are 501(c)(3) entities. City leaders announced that there would be no discipline beyond an unexcused absence for students who walk out of classes, as WPRI 12 reports:

City leaders aren’t officially supporting a student-led plan to walk out of high schools Friday during President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration. But they aren’t attempting to stop it either.

A spokesperson for the district confirmed Monday that any student participating in the walkout will receive an unexcused absence, the same policy that would be enforced if a similar protest occurred on any other day.

In order to accommodate students planning to walk out, the school has moved a midterm exam from Friday to Monday, according to GoLocalProv, a local website providing news coverage, Classical Moves Midterms for Student Walkout Protesting Trump on Friday.

Unbelievable. An unexcused absence. I don’t know about anyone else, but when I was in high school that would not have fazed me.

The city and school may not be officially supporting the protest, but teachers taking these kind of accommodating steps indirectly supports and encourages students to participate.

And what about the students who are at school to learn? Oe who have been studying in preparation for Friday and were looking forward to a weekend of having one less thing to think about.

Politics doesn’t belong in grade school.
