"This is going to be the greatest coordinated economic isolation in the history of the world," Bessent explained.
"You are with us or against us. You want this murderous regime to end. And If you insist on doing business with them, either transferring money, buying their oil...then the U.S. Treasury will put its full might and force toward enforcing against you. So it is time for our allies and the rest of the world to make a decision.
"We are going to squash the economy of this murderous regime," Bessent asserted, saying this will stop the regime from being able to project power through their proxies and pay their military. They're already suffering incredible inflation in Iran. As we reported, they're already failing to pay the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps).
As we reported, President Donald Trump termed it an "Economic D-Day," invoking the landing of forces that ultimately led to us crushing our enemies in World War II, and warning anyone who would help Iran.

"This will work. It worked in Venezuela. It's working in Cuba. It's going to work in Iran," Bessent declared. Before this military action, the U.S. had largely only had sanctions as a weapon. Now the U.S. has decimated a lot of things militarily, killed a ton of their leaders, is seizing regime money, and, of course, blockading them, not allowing them to ship things in and out, which is crippling them.
While the goal has been stopping the nukes and ensuring they are never able to threaten us with them, not necessarily regime change, regime change brought on by the Iranian people that takes out the mullahs would be the best result to ensure that goal. As we've reported, there's a resistance that thinks the revolution is coming; it may just be a question of when. It was the economy that caused the January riots against the regime, and the economy wasn't even as bad then as it is now. The people have a lot more to be mad at the regime about since then, with the massacre of protesters.
Bessent is an economic beast, and he's doing all he can to make it happen.
