As we reported earlier, there was a big WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) game between the Indiana Fever and the Atlanta Dream on Sunday.
The Fever won, and the team's star player, Caitlin Clark, got in an epic troll of the Dream's Angel Reese during the game.
But one of the big controversies of the game happened off the court with Kasey Thomason and her daughter, Annie, who were sitting close to the floor. Kasey wore an XX-XY shirt, while Annie wore a Riley Gaines collaborative piece with "XX" on the front and "For the Girls" on the back. They wore them to support Clark's teammate, Sophie Cunningham, and the fight to keep women’s sports and spaces female.
However, they were approached during the overtime period by a security guard. The security guard allegedly told them a fan or fans were offended by the shirts, so they had the choice of wearing Atlanta Dream "Wellness" night shirts or being ejected. They didn't want to miss the last two minutes of overtime, so they did it.
But afterward they spoke out.

Their story was picked up and went viral.

Mom and Daughter Reveal Off the Rails Moment They Were Told to Cover Up XX-XY Shirts at WNBA Game
The shirts weren't attacking anyone; they were simply supporting women's sports. This is something the WNBA is supposed to care about, but seems to have forgotten. The two women wore them for four quarters without any issue, and they weren't doing anything but sitting courtside.
Now the WNBA and the Atlanta Dream have finally weighed in on the controversy.
The Atlanta Dream said they believe in providing a safe and inclusive environment for everyone. They noted that WNBA security took actions that fell short of that standard, and they had nothing to do with it.
The WNBA admitted it was their league security that did it.
"The WNBA is aware of interactions at last night's game in Atlanta in which fans were asked by league security to cover their shirts," a WNBA spokesperson said in a statement provided to OutKick. "This should not have happened."
Things missing: So why did it happen then, and how are you going to assure this is rectified and doesn't happen again? Are you holding anyone responsible? What was the instruction that had been given to league security? Where is your apology to your customers who you treated so shabbily?
The WNBA also denied they had anything to do with a WNBA subreddit banning Cunningham's name.
A WNBA spokesperson released a statement regarding claims that the r/WNBA subreddit has banned Sophie Cunningham's name:

“The WNBA does not moderate or have any affiliation with the r/WNBA subreddit.”

People were decidedly dissatisfied with the WNBA's response.

But this is what happens when the WNBA has lost its way and can't even be definitive about being supportive of women.
