As we reported, there are many questions about the condition of Iran's current "Supreme Leader," Mojtaba Khamenei.

He hasn't been seen. He didn't even show up for a big allegiance ceremony in Tehran. Instead, they just had a picture in this place. That prompted widespread mockery, including a viral meme of him as a cardboard cutout. There were a lot of fun ones like this one:

But the bigger question for the Iranians under the gun from Operation Epic Fury is: Where is Mojtaba?

Now, under the cardboard mockery backlash, Iranian officials are admitting that he was, in fact, injured in the attack that killed his father at the beginning of the military action.

The three Iranian officials said they were told by more senior figures in the government over the past two days that Mr. Khamenei had suffered injuries, including to his legs, but that he was alert and sheltering at a highly secure location with limited communication.

Two Israeli military officials said information gathered by Israel had also led the defense establishment to believe that Mr. Khamenei suffered leg injuries on Feb. 28, a conclusion they reached even before he was selected as the new supreme leader on Sunday. The Israeli officials spoke on condition of anonymity.

There had been reports that he was in a coma or had a leg amputated.

But they obviously realized they had an issue with the impression of a phantom leader. So Khamenei has now also allegedly issued a statement, although he still hasn't been seen. His statement was read by a TV anchor, not by him

“We will avenge the blood of our martyrs,” Khamenei added.

“I would like to thank the brave fighters who are doing a great job at a time when our country is under pressure and under attack.”

The ayatollah also said that Iran would continue to attack its Gulf Arab neighbors, though he insisted Tehran was only targeting US military bases.

They called it his "first public statement" — so they were trying to hoodwink their own people.

There's only so long you can play this game if he really is incapacitated or dead, and as we noted, the report was that even his father didn't want him in the position. So that can't make the Iranian regime feel very confident in his "leadership."

Meanwhile, the White House has joined the cardboard mockery with Deputy White House Chief of Staff Dan Scavino teasing they're going to need more leaders, and maybe they need to get busy.

The Iranians can try to play "hide the leader," but they're still getting taken out.
