The White House Correspondents' Dinner always raises a basic question with which the media doesn't seem to want to deal.
You're supposed to be reporting objectively on the White House. But when you are partying down with them, how can you be objective? Plus, with the media so staunchly liberal, we already have raging questions of bias.

Because of that, at an event like this when people are supposed to be funny, alleged comedians like Colin Jost just completely fell flat. I don't know who thought he would be a good host, but he just wasn't funny.
One good example was this bit trying to sell us on Joe Biden's "success" in his term in office.

"By a lot of measures," Jost claimed, Joe Biden "is having a very successful first term, but people don't seem to realize it. Like with the economy. The vibes are bad, but the numbers say it's strong."
"The economy is kinda like you on the steps of Air Force One," he said to Biden, "It feels like it's stumbling, but there's somehow upward progress."
Now there are a lot of funny things you could say there about Biden, on so many different topics, including his tripping/stumbling problem, or the report that the Biden team has now delegated handlers to walk with him to try to cover his walking issues and make them less prominent. This routine also places them between Biden and the media, so it's harder for the media to reach Biden with a question.

But Jost seemed too busy pushing the Democratic talking points on how Biden is just so successful, the problem is those darn Americans just don't understand it.
That's pure Dem propaganda, disregarding all the measures by which Biden is a terrible failure including money in our pockets, security of our nation--not pouring out our money into endless wars. The problem is that media -- the people who are supposed to be questioning Biden on all of this on behalf of the people -- are pushing the talking points instead.
This was the only bit that came even close to being funny because it hit on some truth. But still, the delivery was rotten.

"My 'Weekend Update' co-anchor, Michael Che, was going to join me here tonight," he said. But in solidarity with Joe Biden, Jost joked, "I decided to lose all my black support."
That was about as harsh as he got when it came to Biden. In fact, he spent more time trying to attack former President Donald Trump, which again shows, even at this event that's supposed to be about Biden, it's still about Trump.
Even the NY Times dissed Jost by saying his effort fell flat, although they miss the "why" or just did not care to identify it. Here's one of the reasons why. This was their take on what Jost had to say about the danger of Trump to the "nerd prom."
But we live in scary times. Early on, Jost said he was honored to be here at what was likely to be, “judging by the swing state polls, the last White House Correspondents’ Dinner.”
Scary times, if you don't have a media event lauding themselves? Can we talk about the narcissism there? As my colleague Brad Slager wrote recently, Trump doesn't give a darn about the event; it went on whether he attended it or not. This is again whipping up another threat about Trump. But it would just make people even more inclined to vote for Trump, if it had this side benefit.
