We reported earlier about a big win in South Carolina where they elected the first Republican mayor in Charleston since 1877.

There's more good news to add to that for Republicans.

Pro-Trump Republican Celeste Maloy has won the special election for the U.S. House seat in Utah's Second District.

Maloy beat state Sen. Kathleen Riebe, who was the minority whip in the Utah Senate. She got 58 percent of the vote.

The seat was open because Republican Rep. Chris Stewart left Congress after serving ten years due to his wife being ill. Maloy had been his chief legal counsel and got his endorsement.

As a candidate, Maloy touted her roots growing up in rural southern Utah, of which the district covers a vast portion, and has leaned into her support of former President Donald Trump, arguing the numerous ongoing prosecutions against him are politically motivated.

"It’s exciting that we’re going to have somebody come out of this primary that represents rural and southern Utah. I think it’s time for that, and everybody’s ready for it," Maloy said following her primary win.

It brings back a crucial Republican vote that was missing in a tight House majority. So it was incredibly important for the Republicans to be able to push through their votes. That makes the House majority 222 Republicans to 213 Democrats.

Maloy also ran against someone who described herself as a "moderate Democrat." So that also may be a window into what people are thinking, at least in that area of Utah.

It was a Republican district so Maloy had the advantage. But Joe Biden was sold as a "moderate Democrat." Having seen the chaos that the Democrats have wrought, some people are not buying what Democrats are selling, even if they claim to be moderate, because the Democratic Party is too influenced by their left wing. Americans also remember how much better things were under Trump as compared to Biden. Turns out people care about things like being forced to pay more for everything because of rampant Bidenflation and they want to be able to eat and pay the mortgage all in the same month.

Maloy will now serve until Jan. 3, 2025, the end of Stewart's term, so she will have to run again in Nov. 2024, if she wants to retain the seat.

Her fellow members of Congress from Utah praised her and congratulated her.
