At this point, I’m not sure what we’re going to hear next when it comes to the mystery of the White House cocaine.
The story seems to keep shifting hour by hour, at this point. I think I’ve almost lost count of how many times it’s changed/evolved. It started “near” the White House, then on the “White House complex,” then in the White House library, then in a “work area” in the West Wing, then in an “highly trafficked area” where visitors might come in for tours of the West Wing. We were told, because of that, it is “unlikely” that they will figure out who the culprit was.
On Thursday, then the story evolved yet again. Now, the latest take is that it wasn’t found in the more public area entrance that we were led to believe on Wednesday, that it was found in a “more secure location” in a “limited access place” in the West Wing. It was near the West Executive Entrance and the Situation Room; “Average people just can’t get in there,” as MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell explained.
NEW: The White House is now claiming the cocaine was found "in a much more secure place … near the Situation Room" and next to "where, for example, the vice president's vehicle is parked." pic.twitter.com/N17r8YJyVV

Oh, and near where the Vice President parks; that’s interesting, too.
So, it looks like former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino was correct when he blew apart the seeming effort to try to suggest a random visitor did this, if what Mitchell is saying is true. Bongino was also speculating that it would have to be someone who was able to bypass normal security, like a family member.
That just raises the stakes again for the guessing game on who it is. Because now that the site has moved yet again to an area that blows out the random visitor theory, it’s not going to be as easy for them to dismiss it as “unlikely” to figure out who the culprit is. They have to have cameras and security that would have picked this up, and this would have been a more limited number of people.
We reported about how White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre blew off the questions about the cocaine and kept trying to deflect to the Secret Service. She was specifically asked about those two separate entrances — the more public one and the West Executive entrance — and refused to clarify where it was found, which would have hurt the effort to try to pin this on a random visitor. They’re playing with us, when they answer like this. She had to know where it was found but wouldn’t provide a straight answer.
Karine Jean-Pierre repeatedly refuses to answer questions on the cocaine found in the West Wing.

“Can you explain why you explain it?” the reporter asked. KJP refused to give a straight answer—because a straight answer raises more questions.
Just not acceptable, when we get responses like this. Who would believe anything they have to say at this point? It seems like they’re trying to muddy the waters, so it can’t be pinned on anyone that matters to them.
Perhaps the response that most typifies how messed up this White House is at this point is the response from Joe Biden. A reporter managed to slip in a question about the cocaine on Wednesday.
Now, a normal response would be, “It’s a serious issue and we’re going to do all we can to look into it.” But instead, what we got with Joe Biden was just a grin and a shrug of the shoulders, like he thinks it’s funny to blow off the questions.

Nothing is serious to him.
Biden blew it off again on Thursday, heading out and ignoring the questions about it.

This is what we have in the White House now—people who think we are not owed any transparency, who think they can get away with anything.
