Sheila Jackson Lee's Comment About the Border Is Detached From Reality

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) has a history of outrageous statements frequently ungrounded in reality.

But she may have just topped herself with her latest statement, which beggars all belief.

Here she is.

“Let me pronounce to my friends that the border is both sovereign and secure,” Lee claimed. According to her, the problem is that “it is obviously subjected to biased and unfair narratives for political purposes.”

Wow. So, all those videos and pictures from the border that you saw, ignore the evidence of your own eyes. According to Lee, those are just “unfair narratives.”

Now, I don’t know which border Lee, who is from Texas and should know better, is talking about, because it surely isn’t the southern border. The southern border is that thing that had more than 200,000 illegal entrants encountered last month. Those are only the folks caught/encountered, not even all the people who actually get through without ever being encountered.

Let’s talk about the massive influx at Del Rio, where thousands poured across the border and were camped under the International Bridge for days before many of them were just released into the United States.

As we reported:

Haitians have been freed on a “very, very large scale” in recent days, according to one U.S. official who put the figure in the thousands. The official, who has direct knowledge of operations, was not authorized to discuss the matter Tuesday and spoke on condition of anonymity. [….]

A second U.S. official, also with direct knowledge and speaking on the condition of anonymity, said large numbers of Haitians were being processed under immigration laws and not being placed on expulsion flights to Haiti that started Sunday. The official couldn’t be more specific about how many.

Now, Lee did actually go to Del Rio. Of course, it was after the Biden administration had shipped all the people out from under the bridge. So, she was late with her attempt for a photo op and didn’t actually see what was going on.

The “unfair narrative” is the Democratic narrative — Lee’s narrative — that the border is secure.

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), also from Texas, had a few choice words for Lee’s spin and let her know that it’s Texas that has had to do far more than they should to stand in the breach for the lack of effectiveness of the Biden Administration’s border control.
