We reported earlier on Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) wearing a designer dress that said “Tax the Rich” at the Met Gala, where a ticket to attend costs at least $30,000.
She was called out for her hypocrisy by people like Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Donald Trump, Jr. because she and the other guests flouted the masks required for the indoor event, while the “help” all had to be masked, and because she was partying with the rich who she was attacking.
What makes @AOC a bigger fraud:
The "tax the rich" dress while she's hanging out with a bunch of wealthy leftwing elites or the lack of masks after spending the past 18 months as one of the biggest authoritarian mask Karens in the country? https://t.co/pE84Pjquh1

Cost per Ticket: $30,000.
Virtue signaling to your base while partying—without a mask—with the people you claim to hate: Priceless. https://t.co/51bVQqZNn1

If there is any clearer picture of hypocrisy, I don’t know what it would be as we watch the socialist, trying to make a point attacking the rich, while partying with them, going to an elite event and being waited on. Watch as she even has someone who has to wear a mask holding up the train of her dress like a princess, as she beams on the arm of her boyfriend, without a mask, at the attention.

She later responded to a lot of the criticism, claiming, “I and my body have been so heavily and relentlessly policed from all corners politically…we had a conversation about Taxing the Rich in front of the very people who lobby against it, and punctured the 4th wall of excess and spectacle.” “I and my body” have been “policed?” Is she crackers? Seriously? She wore a dress to try to get attention. Now she’s screaming that she got attention? What does that have to do with “policing” her body anyway?
Her actions caused a lot of questions about the dress and whether she paid or was invited or somehow got a free ticket to the event. She claimed that she was invited.
And before haters get wild flying off the handle, New York elected officials are routinely invited to and attend the Met due to our responsibilities in overseeing and supporting the city’s cultural institutions for the public. I was one of several in attendance in this evening.🤗

But the question of the use of the dress and the free ticket raises other questions about accepting gifts by a member of Congress. The Daily Mail is claiming she took a “free” ticket from the Met Museum that was worth $35,000. Presumably the boyfriend got one, as well. So the event was to raise money. So that’s two tickets that they didn’t sell and $70,000 that they couldn’t take in because they gave the tickets to her. But then that’s also the worth of the gift to her.
But now, there’s been an ethics complaint filed against her by the American Accountability Foundation, a watchdog group.
The AAF’s complaint, obtained by Fox News, asks the Office of Congressional Ethics to “immediately open an investigation” into Ocasio-Cortez and whether she accepted an “impermissible gift” to attend the gala or violated any campaign finance laws.
“Without prompt investigation and enforcement of Congressional Rules, the American people are likely to lose faith in the ability of Congress to police its members,” the complaint says.
The complaint states that since Ocasio-Cortez described her attendance at the Met Gala as part of her official duties, the “receipt of the gift” must fall under either the widely attended event or charity event exemptions as defined by the House rules.
The AAF is saying it doesn’t qualify because it wasn’t widely attended and it’s run by Conde Nast, a for-profit company.
So it wasn’t the brightest move to begin with — the whole idea was false, to begin with, since the rich actually pay most of the taxes. But now she bought herself some trouble in the bargain. And it couldn’t happen to a more deserving person.
