Shooting Outside Washington Nationals Park, Causing a Panicked Race to the Exits

(1-0)

During the 6th inning of the Washington Nationals game this evening, suddenly there was shooting heard outside the Third Base Gate. That caused the players to run off the field and fans to head toward the exits of Nationals Park in a panic. The incident occurred about 9:30 p.m. local time, and you could hear the shots during the game.

Frightened fans weren’t sure what to do, and some tried to hide.

Four people were reportedly shot at the 1500 block of South Capitol Street, SW, then two more people subsequently showed up at the hospital for treatment from gunshot wounds, according to WJLA.

Police are investigating and don’t believe there is any further threat at this time.

The game was suspended and will be continued tomorrow, the Washington Nationals said in a released statement.
