Dr. Anthony Fauci appeared on “Face the Nation” with Margaret Brennan to issue, as my colleague Andrew Malcolm termed it – the virus “marching orders” for the week.
One of the items Fauci touched on was that he thought children should continue to wear masks when they’re playing with other children.
Dr. Fauci says that children should continue wearing masks while playing together in groups:

“The children can clearly wind up getting infected,” Fauci said. “When the children go out into the community, you want them to continue to wear masks when they’re interacting with groups or multiple households.”
But he then said he thought it was “conceivable that will be possible” that kids could go to camp or playgrounds this summer. That with vaccination rates at 3 to 3.5 million a day and lower infection rates there could be more “flexibility” in the summer “with things like camps.”
The problem of course with such pronouncements is Fauci doesn’t have to look at the whole picture, he doesn’t have to weigh things in the balance or consider the effects of his pronouncements. He can just say, ‘yes, there’s a possibility they can get infected.’ Which is true. Even if, as the CDC says, the children are less likely to spread it, less likely to have a severe case if they get it and have a higher degree of asymptomatic infection. Fauci doesn’t have to consider things like any possible psychological and physical issues or other problematic questions. He doesn’t have to consider the studies showing more obesity, problems in academic achievement and increased depression among kids.
If Joe Biden can’t stop touching his mask, what do we think about little six year old kids wearing masks, not wearing them right, not keeping them clean and touching them? Fauci warned early on how always touching and fiddling with the mask could be counterproductive and actually help the spread potentially.
Meanwhile has Fauci checked what his administration is doing with unaccompanied minors down at the border, packing them into plastic cages so close, they’re almost on top of one another? That they were largely not able to test before being sent on from the CBP facilities? So when will he be weighing in on that since he weighs in on everything else related to the virus? What does he think about those super spreader situations? We await with bated breath when he will weigh in there.
