We’ve reported a lot about the Joe Biden press conference – what a disaster it was and how he even had cheat sheets and notes that he read from to give his answers.
But, I wanted to fact check some of those answers his handlers provided him with, because not only was there all kind of incoherence, there were a bunch of lies. In fact, there were so many lies, we’re only going to hit the highlights — since if I went through every single, false statement, we might be here still discussing it until next Christmas.
Perhaps one of the biggest lies of the presser – there really isn’t a crisis; this is just a normal seasonal migration. “It happens every year,” Biden claimed. Well, no, it doesn’t, and his own DHS head Alejandro Mayorkas has already conceded that “[w]e are on pace to encounter more individuals on the southwest border than we have in the last 20 years.” If this were the “normal seasonal migration,” why would you need to open several new facilities and have some operating at over 1,500% capacity? If this is normal, then why are you trying to cut off media from talking to the CBP and admitting basically that it’s not ready to be seen? Obviously, this is a whopper of a lie.
Biden claimed that President Donald Trump “shut down the number of beds available,” that he “did not fund HHS” to have beds. “He dismantled all of that.” Again, a flat-out lie. Last year, the Trump administration actually requested money for more beds, asking for 6,000 more beds than they had the prior year, to ensure against any issues, and they moved hundreds of million to fund an increase in capacity for HHS facilities for unaccompanied minors. It’s just that the Biden surge — because of his encouragement — is even overwhelming that.
Biden also basically set up a false choice: between letting them all flood in or letting them starve, and then he claimed that Trump let kids starve to death. “The idea that I’m going to say, which I would never do, if an unaccompanied child ends up at the border, we’re just going to let them starve to death and stay on the other side, no previous administrations did either, except Trump.” That’s a vile lie on both counts. Strangely enough, you actually can enter legally (how refreshing!), and Trump never let anyone starve to death.
Jen Psaki had told a repeated lie, that they were turning away the majority of families arriving. Biden repeated that lie last night. But the data shows an average of just 13% of nearly 13,000 family members who crossed the border between March 14 and March 21 were expelled using Title 42, the public health order used by Trump to turn back people because of the Wuhan coronavirus. Now, that doesn’t mean that everyone ultimately might get to stay, but it does mean they’re staying at least to their proceedings, so what Biden and Psaki were claiming is not true/is misleading. So, when next you hear her claim, “we’re turning back the majority of families,” know that she’s not telling the truth.
Another Biden deception? “Mexico is refusing to take them back. They are saying they will not take them back.” No, Biden eliminated Trump’s Remain in Mexico deal with the Mexican government. So, it’s pretty wrong to complain that they wouldn’t take them back, because Biden is the one that stopped the process of doing so.
Biden also was deceptive about other subjects, as well.
He said he met his goal of 100 million shots in 100 days. But Trump was already hitting 1 million a day before Biden. So, that wasn’t much of a goal to hit.
He also claimed that he met his goal “of getting a majority of schools in K-8 fully open in the first 100 days. Now, thanks to the enormous amount of work done by our administration, educators, parents, local, state education officials and leaders, a recent Department of Education survey shows that nearly half of the K-8 schools are open now full-time, five days a week for in-person learning.”
Now, that’s a big honking lie on so many levels, it’s hard to know where to start.
So, let’s start with what his original “goal” was (which he changed, after caving to the teachers unions).
In the first 100 days of my administration, we will:
– Ask all Americans to mask up
– Administer 100 million vaccine shots
– Get most schools back openWe’re going to contain the virus and get back to our lives.
— Joe Biden (@JoeBiden) December 22, 2020
Notice how it was get “most schools open” not “K-8” within 100 days. But that apparently didn’t accord with what the teachers union overlords wanted.
But on top of that, not only didn’t he have anything at all to do with them opening, he gave more credence to the unions who were standing in the way. He doesn’t have any control of the local school districts, and it’s the GOP and local folks who pushed to open them, not him. And more than half are still not fully open, so he hasn’t met that, in any event.
Can we give him a boatload of Pinocchios?
