George Conway Delivers the Coup de Grace to the Lincoln Project

The precipitous meltdown of the Lincoln Project has been a sight to behold.

It couldn’t happen to a slimier group of folks and couldn’t be more deserved.

Just today, we reported that according to the 19th News, that co-founder Steve Schmidt allegedly knew previously about the allegations against John Weaver even going as far back as March of last year. Then there is the financial funny business covered by my colleague Jen Van Laar here and here. Sadly also the report of another allegation involving Weaver and an underage boy.

Some of them don’t get that they’re circling the drain.

But one of their co-founders George Conway says they need to turn off the lights and pull the cover over the wreckage.

“An investigation is necessary,” Conway declared. “But it has to be thorough, and not a whitewash. And—THE LYING HAS TO STOP. It’s clear now that, as early last *MARCH*, the people who were in operational control of the Lincoln Project …were told of Weaver’s predations. Enough is enough. LP needs to waive the NDAs and come clean.

One of their former senior advisers Kurt Bardella said it was time to shut it all down.

Conway agreed.

You know it’s bad when one of your co-founders is throwing the group under the bus publicly on Twitter. George was also the person who warned the Lincoln Project account that posting the private DMs of Jennifer Horn was potentially against federal law.

There will no doubt be questions for George as well, since he was still involved in the group as of March last year. What did he know and when did he know it? He didn’t withdraw for the group to deal with family issues until August of last year.

Of course the allegations about Weaver have been floating around for decades with Karl Rove bringing them up years ago when Weaver worked for John McCain. So why anyone would subsequently be involved with him on anything is a real question.

The problem is that the “failures at the top” were symptomatic of the ethos of the group. They were built on being nasty, personal and grabbing Democratic dollars from liberals too gullible to realize they were pouring their money down a rat hole.

It should have been shuttered long ago. But perhaps a small amount of karma that they’re going down as President Donald Trump is acquitted and free to run again in 2024.
