As we reported earlier, the House Democrats tried to pull a fast one, making a motion to call the witnesses after both sides had presented and rested their respective cases.
That motion passed, setting the stage for a dumpster fire of God knows how long, with who knows how many witnesses.
Democratic House Managers did it, likely knowing that they would lose, given the indications from Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY).
So when they pulled the pin on that grenade, then Graham fired back, saying if they opened the door, he was going to call a boatload of witnesses, and some of the witnesses weren’t going to like it.
“It is my firm belief that the House Managers are trying to investigate the case AFTER it was brought to the Senate,” Graham said rightly calling them out on their last minute move to save their case.
“It is better for the country to go to a final vote. However, if the body wants witnesses, I am going to insist we have multiple witnesses. We can start with Speaker Pelosi to answer the question as to whether or not there was credible evidence of pre-planned violence before President Trump spoke? Whether Speaker Pelosi, due to optics, refused requests by the Capitol Hill Police for additional resources like the National Guard? Her testimony is incredibly relevant to the incitement charge.”
When the House Managers did that, it’s not clear they were in sync with the Democrats in the Senate and it looks like Graham’s threats may have frightened them back into sanity because they surely don’t want him to start calling Pelosi and show how she had ample warning and yet didn’t respond to the Capitol Police’s requests.
Anyway, now they’ve agreed to a deal that allows Democrats to enter the statement the Democrats wanted into the record but without calling anymore witnesses, so that now they could just proceed onto closing statements and have a vote to acquit today.
That’s annoyed other Democrats leaving them all mad at each other.
Senate Democrats' decision to backtrack on witnesses after voting unanimously to allow them has many true believers upset. It is, indeed, hard to figure out why they did what they did. Why vote for witnesses if they were going to cave so quickly?

Typical Democrats. They rushed to impeach, didn’t prepare the case and now tried to amend it in a ridiculous way at the end.
Some speculated the Biden team who might want to have their people or agenda elements approved might have told Democrats to stop the games or Republicans like Graham would just light them up and stop their agenda.
Now I’m really curious if the White House quietly delivered a message to the Senate Dems.

Democrats are in chaos. Trump will be acquitted. It’s a good day.
