Five police officers are dead and several injured following a shooting in downtown Dallas Thursday night. Are Black Lives Matter and Blue Lives Matter mutually exclusive? Theoretically, no. In reality, it’s looking more like it every day. (AP Photo/Eric Gay, File)

For months now, we’ve seen a basic falsehood that police are inherently bad and that defunding them somehow prevents them from their “systemic racism” and evil ways.

All of that is wrong, yet not enough people are debunking that with truth: that most cops are good people doing the best they can to do their job in an incredible difficult environment where they get virtually no support.

Every day they place themselves in harm’s way to protect us.

Like Officer Ismael Chavez, 39, and his partner Edelmiro Garza, 45, of the McAllen Police Department who were killed yesterday in an ambush shooting.

The officers walked up to the door of a home to answer a call about an assault and were gunned down without even a chance to pull their guns or respond. A suspect opened the door killed them both and then shot and killed himself. They didn’t even have a chance to radio for help.

Worse they both have families who are now without fathers. The suspect was a man who had a long criminal history and should never have been out.

Chavez’s daughter posted a thread on Twitter honoring her father, who also used to be a teacher.

“Words cannot describe the pain I’m in, but I’m glad my dad is at peace. you were an amazing man and anyone who ever came across you knew that. I’m going to miss you so much. you died doing what you loved most, you died a hero. i love you daddy, see you soon. #bluelivesmatter 💙”

A terribly heartfelt thread of tribute to her dad who had already done so much with his life.

Most people were very supportive of her.

But leftists swooped in, with some chastising her for daring to say that “blue lives matter.”

Savannah ended up deleting the tweet with “blue lives matter” in it because of the attack. You can see it here.

So just some history, Blue Lives Matter as an expression came after two NYPD officers were assassinated by a Black Lives Matter protester in December 2014. It was an expression to value police officers who were being attacked in response to the hate being promulgated against them, not a put down of anyone.

It shouldn’t even have to be explained. Responding like that to the daughter of a cop who was just killed yesterday is disgusting and vile. All these folks who did that need to examine their souls.
