The mayor of Melrose, Massachusetts may just be trying to go for stupidest reaction ever.

The Democratic mayor was anxious to apologize to everyone for the message that was on an electronic road sign in town.

What caused him such consternation? This sign:

“I have just been made aware that the following traffic sign is being displayed on Main Street. I have ordered that it be taken down immediately and am taking steps to find out how this happened,” Brodeur explained. “I apologize to the residents of Melrose.”

The police Chief Michael L. Lyle condemned the message and said they would be conducting an investigation into how the sign could have come to say “the safety of all lives matter.”

From Daily Caller:

“I am aware that the phrase ‘all lives matter’ is commonly used as a misguided counter to the Black Lives Matter movement,” Lyle said. “On behalf of the Melrose Police Department, I sincerely apologize to our residents and anyone who drove past the sign today.”

“Preliminarily, the officer reported to me that he did not post the message with either malicious or political intent,” Lyle continued in his statement. “The officer, by his account, was trying to type a traffic safety message in the limited space offered by the electronic sign and did not realize the totality or impact of the words he had posted.”

He did get some thanking him for addressing the “racism” of the sign. Some even termed it “hate speech.”

But most thought he was way off base.

Imagine with everything else going on that this is what they think needs investigating? How dare some poor cop say the safety of all lives matter? Does the mayor want to share whose lives he thinks doesn’t matter? Doesn’t traffic safety apply to all? Why would anyone think this needed apologizing for?
