We reported about the story of the couple who ingested fish tank cleaner because it had chloroquine phosphate in it, after the anti-malaria drugs Hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine had been touted as helpful in dealing with the Wuhan coronavirus.

Media immediately blamed President Donald Trump despite the fact that Trump was talking about the potential of the drugs in trials, as properly prescribed by doctors. He did not say that the FDA had approved the drug for the coronavirus, he said that they would be able to fast-track testing because it had already been approved for other uses, and that before then it doctors would be able to prescribe it for the “off label” use in “compassionate use cases (in other words, to help the seriously ill or save someone’s life), according to National Review. He did not tell people to ingest fish tank cleaner. But that didn’t stop media from latching onto the story and whacking him over it.

But now that media idiocy combined with a Democratic governor may cost people’s lives.

Nevada governor Steve Sisolak has issued an emergency order banning doctors from prescribing the two drugs for coronavirus patients. He’s also banned people from acquiring more than a thirty day supply of the drugs to prevent hoarding.

Now, while trying to prevent hoarding with the 30 day provision makes sense given that this situation can cause a run on the drug, this is a politician literally interfering in a doctor’s ability to prescribe what he/she thinks is best for the patient. So if a patient is in danger of dying, this means that they may be out of luck because a Democrat is taken in by the media idiocy and/or wants to get a dig in at Trump.

Remember the question of death panels? This is literally a politician not a doctor telling doctors who they can treat and not treat and how.

This is particularly ridiculous as Governor Andrew Cuomo announced they are conducting trials and prescribing it during the trials in New York.

National Review also pointed to the case of a Florida man Rio Giardinieri, 52, who was prescribed the drug and believes it saved his life.

“He gave me all the reasons why I would probably not want to try it because there are no trials, there’s no testing, it was not something that was approved,” said Giardinieri. “And I said, ‘Look, I don’t know if I’m going to make it until the morning,’ because at that point I really thought I was coming to the end because I couldn’t breathe anymore,” Giardinieri continued.

“He agreed and authorized the use of it and 30 minutes later the nurse gave it to me.”

He’s since had no fever or pain and can breathe again. Giardinieri said doctors believe the episodes he experienced were not a reaction to the medicine but his body fighting off the virus . . . “To me, there was no doubt in mind that I wouldn’t make it until morning,” said Giardinieri. “So to me, the drug saved my life.”

But folks in Nevada wouldn’t have that option to save their lives.

Governor Sisolak’s decision was blasted by people including Ted Cruz and Dan Bongino.

Hopefully, the anger and the backlash makes him change his mind. But it’s just disgraceful that he issues an edict like this.
