There’s been massive blowback against the effort in Virginia to curtail Second Amendment rights in the state.

Many counties in Virginia and elsewhere have declared themselves “sanctuaries” for the Second Amendment in response to such restrictive actions.

North Carolina’s Davidson county heard from constituents on a vote to become a sanctuary county. It was standing room only and 20 members of the public spoke on the resolution. Every one of them supported gun rights.

The one who perhaps got the most attention was North Carolina sheriff’s deputy Tripp Kester, whose powerful words went viral, when he said he’d sworn and oath to uphold the Constitution and refused to enforce any unconstitutional gun laws.

“The Constitution needs no explanation; it’s been enforced for several hundred years, now. It’s easy to understand. It says what it means; it means what it says,” he continued.

“And the last time I read the Declaration of Independence, it specifically reminds all of us that we are endowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights — which means God given — among these, life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness.”

“Governments were instituted among men, specifically, to secure our God given rights,” Kester noted. “And it says when government becomes destructive to these ends … it’s the right of the people to alter or abolish that government, either by voting or, ultimately, God forbid, to use our Second Amended rights to protect ourselves from tyranny.”

“I took an oath,” the deputy said, and I “swore that I’d give my life to defend that Constitution.”

“I’m not trying to be disrespectful, but regardless of what you guys do or don’t do, I’m not gonna enforce an unconstitutional law,” he added, sparking thunderous applause.

“Let’s let these people know that we’re here to support them, and we’re not going to allocate any personnel, finances, resources, or facilities to infringe on their liberties,” he finished.

It would have been pretty hard to vote against the resolution in the face of that and it passed unanimously. 100 counties in Virginia and other counties across the country have passed similar resolutions.
