President Donald Trump responded to the vote Friday of the House Judiciary Committee, passing two articles of impeachment, abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, based on actions surrounding Ukraine.

Trump called it out as a sham and a misuse of impeachment by Democrats. He warned that Democrats were opening a hornet’s nest by using impeachment this way, in a way that could then come back and bite a Democratic president, if one were ever elected again.

“It’s a witch hunt, it’s a sham, it’s a hoax. Nothing was done wrong. Zero was done wrong. I think it’s a horrible thing to be using the tool of impeachment, which is supposed to be used in an emergency [….] “It’s a scam, it’s something that should not be allowed and it’s a very bad thing for our country and you are trivializing impeachment and I’ll tell you what, someday they’ll be a Democrat president and they’ll be a Republican house and I suspect they’re going to remember it.”

Trump said he believed that they were trying to use impeachment for “political gain” but that it was backfiring according to the numbers and it was helping his fundraising because people were so disgusted by the Democrats’ efforts.

He went on to bust House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, noting that she’d given away the game during an interview this week when she admitted that Democrats have been trying to impeach him for nearly two years.

“It’s a hoax and Nancy Pelosi knows it. By the way they duped her yesterday, she was on an interview and she said ‘we’ve been working on this for two-and-a half years. So she was working on it, in other words, two years before we ever spoke to Ukraine,” he said. “The reporter was shocked when she got this answer because it showed that she’s a liar.”

Here’s what he’s talking about, she said it at Politico’s Women Rule summit, in response to a question about Democrats moving too quickly to impeach (without due consideration).

But she’d also said it in a press briefing a week or so ago.

So it really had nothing to do with Ukraine or any of those facts, as Trump observed, it was just about trying to find something, anything they could use to get to their goal of impeachment.
