CNN's Dana Bash Busts Jerry Nadler for Hypocrisy for His Past Statements on Partisan Impeachment

Both House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) have said in the past that they don’t believe there should be an impeachment if it isn’t bipartisan, if it’s just a narrow partisan effort.

Yet now, both are proceeding with just such an effort.

In perhaps a stunning turn on their general narrative, CNN actually called this out, both in a panel discussion where the participants pointed out the problem of a partisan impeachment, driven by personal animus and the political effort against the president.

Then, on top of that, CNN’s Dana Bash actually nailed Nadler with an old clip of him calling out partisan impeachments from 1998, when Nadler said, “There must never be a narrowly voted impeachment or an impeachment substantially supported by one of our major political parties, and largely opposed by the other. Such an impeachment would lack legitimacy, would produce divisiveness and bitterness in our politics for years to come.”

Of course that’s exactly where we are now, as Bash pointed out, after playing the clip.

From Daily Wire:

“So, right now, you are moving forward with impeachment proceedings against a Republican president without support from even one congressional Republican.”

“Is it fair to say that this impeachment, in your words from back then, will produce divisiveness and bitterness in our politics for years to come?” Bash asked.

“No,” Nadler replied, claiming that Trump was the one who was responsible for the “bitterness and divisiveness into our politics.”

“So, you are willing to impeach the president with no Republican votes, correct?” Bash pressed.

“We’re going to impeach the president – if we’re going to impeach the president, we will impeach him on adequate and urgent grounds to defend our democratic republic,” Nadler responded.

“And if there’s no Republican votes, so be it?” Bash asked.

“It’s up to them to decide whether they want to be patriots or partisans,” Nadler responded.

Wow, an actual act of journalism by Bash, exposing how completely craven and hypocritical Nadler is, without even one Republican supporting this ridiculous exercise.

Not only isn’t there even one Republican supporting it, the folks opposing impeachment actually are the ones that at least have some bipartisanship, with two Democrats who voted against the Democrats October 31 impeachment rules vote and one of those, Rep. Jeff Van Drew (D-NJ) already indicating he doesn’t see anything that justifies impeachment so far.
