Trump and Campaign to Sue CNN

Looks like President Donald Trump and his campaign have had just about enough with CNN.

After Project Veritas released several videos this week showing CNN’s focus on pushing impeachment, lawyers for the president and his campaign have announced their intent to sue.

The videos show employees saying among other things that they have been told to push Trump and impeachment over other news. Some despair that they used to cover news but now no longer do, with the sole focus being on negative news about Trump. One employee even said he didn’t think it would stop until Trump died which he hoped would happen soon.

From Washington Examiner:

In a four-page letter to CNN, Zucker, and Executive Vice President David Vigilante, Trump attorney Charles J. Harder cited years of anti-Trump bias at the network and claimed the cable giant has broken its promise of “excellence in journalism.”

Listing several examples from the just-released Project Veritas videotapes of CNN insiders describing Zucker’s demand for “impeachment above all else,” Harder wrote that they “are merely the tip of the iceberg of the evidence my clients have accumulated over recent years.”

He added, “Never in the history of this country has a President been the subject of such a sustained barrage of unfair, unfounded, unethical and unlawful attacks by so-called ‘mainstream’ news, as the current situation.”

Harder argued that while media certainly has free speech, CNN was violating the Lanham Act by making “misrepresentations to the public, to your advertisers, and to others” and not distributing “truly fair and balanced” news.

“Recently released video footage of individuals alleged to be your employees indicates that your reporting relating to President Trump is contrary to your own mission and the aforementioned Code of Ethics. Your own employees appear to state that CNN is focused on trying to ‘take down President Trump,’ driven by a ‘personal vendetta’ that Mr. Zucker purportedly has against him, rather than reporting the news in an objective manner,” wrote Harder.

Harder then gave notice of their intent to sue saying they would be seeking “compensatory damages, treble damages, punitive damages, injunctive relief, reimbursement of legal costs” along with anything else they could get.

A CNN spokesperson called the threatened suit a publicity stunt.

CNN has a long history of biased and bad reporting when it comes to Trump. We should all be supportive of free speech. But we should also be supportive of good and objective journalism. From the President of CNN Jeff Zucker to White House reporter Jim Acosta, they’ve repeatedly demonstrated that they are not “reliable sources,” destroying a network that used to be a journalistic model. It’s long past time that they return to actual objective reporting.
