According to the UN, “Migrants, especially economic migrants, choose to move in order to improve the future prospects of themselves and their families. Refugees have to move if they are to save their lives or preserve their freedom.”
So the good news is, according to President Barack Obama, the war in Iraq and Syria is contained. There should be no more refugees, as the war is not expanding.
Don’t take it from me, listen to the man himself talking to fellow Democrat George Stephanopoulos:
Stephanopoulos: But ISIS is gaining strength, aren’t they?
Obama: I don’t think they’re gaining strength. What is true is that from the start, our goal has been first to contain. And we have contained them. They have not gained ground in Iraq. In Syria they’ll come, they’ll leave. But you don’t see the systematic march by ISIL across the terrain.
There you have it. The war is not spreading. The Islamic State’s forces are contained. They are not marching across the terrain spreading terror. Therefore there is no more legal status for new refugees, as there are no new places for refugees legally to be fleeing from, either from war, or from the Islamic state.
So when Obama tells us that more refugees are coming, and we need to accept them, there’s a problem here. Either they aren’t actually new refugees, but rather are migrants, and he’s lying about them being refugees. That, or he’s lying about the Islamic State being contained, and they are refugees.
Either way, the President’s story doesn’t actually check out, when it comes to refugees from the Islamic State.
