Buttigieg Kinda Sorta Has Second Thoughts About Males Playing in Female Sporting Events—or Does He?

Undoubtedly, with thoughts about the 2028 Democrat primaries in mind, Former Biden Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has appeared to pivot on his thoughts about males pretending to be females — "trans women" — beating the bejesus out of actual females in female sporting events.

As I asked in the headline, or has he?

Given that a recent poll found that 75 percent of American adults — including two out of three Gen Zers — believe so-called "trans" women shouldn't be allowed to play on female sports teams or against females in non-team sports, if Buttigieg is saying he no longer supports the insanity, you can bet he's changing his mind (make that "pretending to change his mind") for the same the reason Democrat politicians support or oppose virtually every issue: with an eye on the ballot box. In Pete's case, with an eye on Democrat priorities.

So is Buttigieg serious, or is he simply trotting out the Democrat two-step in an effort to score points with leftist voters who support males in female sports?

Here's what he said during a Monday interview on NPR’s “Morning Edition”:

Your approach starts with compassion — compassion for transgender people, compassion for families, especially young people who are going through this, and also empathy for people who are not sure what all of this means for them.

And I think when you do that, that does call into question some of the past orthodoxies in my party, for example, around sports, where I think most reasonable people would recognize that there are serious fairness issues if you just treat this as not mattering when a trans athlete wants to compete in women’s sports.

I think these decisions should be in the hands of sports leagues and school boards and not politicians. Least of all, politicians in Washington trying to use this as a political pawn.

So what do you think?

Come to think of it, Buttigieg sounded a lot like California Gov. Gavin Newsom (AKA: Gov. Hair Gel) on the issue — who also has an interest in the 2028 Democrat presidential nomination.

Here's Hair Gel on the issue in March on the debut episode of his podcast, "This Is Gavin Newsom":

"I think it's an issue of fairness, I completely agree with you on that," Newsom said to conservative influencer Charlie Kirk during the episode. "It is an issue of fairness -- it's deeply unfair," Newsom added.

Newsom later said he'd be open to a conversation about limiting "trans" athletes' participation in female sports in California if such a discussion were conducted “in a way that’s respectful and responsible and could find a kind of balance.”

What is that?

While Buttigieg talks about "fairness," Newsom not only does the same; he also suggests some kind of impossible "balance" between the two sides. How, exactly, would that work, Gavin?

Newsom (like Buttigieg) sounds like he wants it both ways (for political reasons, only), which can't happen. Males pretending to be females can either be allowed to continue playing against women, or they can be barred from doing so. There's no middle road, here.

President Trump agrees.

The Trump administration filed a lawsuit against California’s Department of Education earlier in July, challenging the state’s policy that allows transgender athletes to compete in girls’ sports and reiterating threats to withhold billions in school funding over alleged violations of federal civil rights under Title IX.

Speaking of Trump:

The U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee updated its eligibility rules last week to exclude transgender female athletes, citing President Trump’s order. The NCAA barred trans women from competition in February, shortly after Trump issued the order on trans athletes.

Laughably, Buttigieg's claim that he doesn't believe such "decisions should be in the hands of sports leagues and school boards and not politicians," and that "politicians in Washington trying to use this as a political pawn” is in direct contrast to the Democrat Party playing the "trans athlete" card at every opportunity. So why the change? Same question, Gavin.

Oops. I almost forgot: The 2028 Democrat presidential primaries will be here before we know it.
