'Hard to Recruit, Entry-Level' Jobs: NY Weighs Lower Work Qualifications, Hiring Thousands of Illegals

New York state officials are weighing relaxing qualifications to hire illegal immigrants who have legal work status in the U.S. and considering "transitional titles” for 4,000 jobs they say are "hard to recruit" for and/or "entry-level." Among the nixed qualifications: English proficiency, proof of education, and previous employment.

Any guesses as to who's behind the lowered qualifications? According to a memo first obtained by Bloomberg, a spokesman for New York Democrat Gov. Kathy Hochul wrote in a statement:

Governor Hochul has prioritized modernizing our State workforce and eliminating red tape, and she has instituted a series of reforms to achieve that goal. This initiative, which has not yet been implemented, would offer temporary employment opportunities that are available for anyone who can legally work in the United States.

Uh-huh. When Democrats use words like "temporary" as they shill for their various policies or programs, you can bet that those policies or programs will ultimately become permanent in many if not most cases. In this case, given the Democrats' fervent support of illegal "immigration," I'd be shocked if the relaxed work requirements — assuming the changes are put into effect — don't become permanent.

The memo further states (emphasis, mine):

The creation of these transitional titles is a win-win way for the State and its agencies to connect qualified and motivated individuals with meaningful jobs and opportunity; help solve the migrant crisis; and rebuild the State workforce.

Here's more:

Gov. Kathy Hochul has touted identifying over 40,000 open positions by employers in the state willing to hire "migrants," though the federal process for approving work authorization has been slow.

The fields of work for the proposed temporary transitional jobs include care for intellectually and developmentally disabled individuals, custodial work, food service, facilities repair, and clerical positions.

OK so here's the thing — which is twofold:

First, given that we have illegal aliens coming out of our ears who will no doubt remain in the country indefinitely, the more of them who have jobs, the better for American taxpayers.

On the other hand — which New York officials seem to ignore — how many jobs would be taken by migrants, due to relaxed work requirements and presumably lower pay, that could conceivably have gone to American citizens?

I can't answer the question, but I suspect that while it wouldn't be 100 percent, it also wouldn't be zero.

The Bottom Line

I gotta be honest. I have mixed emotions about Hochul's proposal, as I suggested above. That said, given the Democrat Party's hellbent mission to important as many "migrants" (illegal aliens) into this country as they can get away with, the pragmatic cynic in me doesn't trust Kathy Hochul as far as I can throw her — which is likely not very far.
