Just. Like. Clockwork.
If there’s anything on the planet MSNBC host Joy Reid can’t connect to something “white” and/or “Christian” — and therefore race-related, or worse — with two dots or less, I have yet to see it.
Every issue or event Reid covers is filtered through her race-baiting lens, so Vladimir Putin’s brutal invasion of Ukraine provides yet another opportunity for the left-wing host to further sow seeds of racial division.
As reported by NewsBusters, Reid used the last segment of Monday night’s “The ReidOut” to exploit the war in Ukraine as a platform from which to launch into yet another iteration of her worn-out narrative: “Racial disparity” in how “Western media” portrays suffering Ukrainians as more “human,” as contrasted with their “browner and blacker counterparts” embroiled in other conflicts around the world.
The down and dirty:
As Reid sees it, the United States and European nations only care about Ukraine because the population is “white and largely Christian.” By contrast, in Reid’s race-obsessed mind, the world doesn’t give a damn about conflicts in “the Middle East, Asia, and Africa.”
As transcribed by NewsBusters:
The coverage of Ukraine has displayed a pretty radical disparity of how human Ukrainians look and feel to Western media compared to their browner and blacker counterparts
Now what we’re seeing in Ukraine is absolutely the worst humanitarian crisis that Europe has seen in decades, but we haven’t witnessed the same type of solidarity for the Yeminies as we do for the Ukrainians. We don’t see historic sanctions, or global campaigns […]
And this is not to say we shouldn’t care this much for Ukraine. Far from it. The point is, we should also care this much for refugees and those facing occupation and war in the Middle East and Asia, and Africa too.
The coverage of Ukraine has revealed a pretty radical disparity in how human Ukrainians look and feel to Western media compared to their browner and blacker counterparts, with some reporters using very telling comparisons in their analyses of the war.
Specifically, Reid was alluding to the ongoing war in Yemen.
As the world watches the devastation unfold in Ukraine, nearly 4,000 miles away, another crisis is deepening that we don’t hear much about in the U.S., and that is the war in Yemen.
While Reid argued that the Yemeni people haven’t seen the same support and solidarity as the people of Ukraine, she conveniently “forgot” to mention China’s ongoing genocide against the minority, mostly Muslim, autonomous Uyghurs — and Marriott recently siding with the ChiComs.
So here’s my question — so far. Is it appropriate to play whataboutism with the ongoing brutality against the Ukrainian people? Is Reid simply doing what she always does; full-metal-jacket race-bating? Or are her observations valid?
Joy Reid being Joy Reid, she asked (herself) a racially-charged set-up question; which she promptly and predictably answered.
Let’s face it, the world is paying attention because this is happening in Europe. If this was happening anywhere else would we see the same outpouring of support and compassion?
And… may I have the envelope?
We don’t need to ask ourselves if the international response would be the same if Russia unleashed their horror on a country that wasn’t White and largely Christian, because Russia has already done it. In Syria.
Russia deployed troops in Syria in January 2020 to help government forces capture a strategic town held by rebels.
And the question I asked, earlier?
Was Reid simply race-baiting, as she always does, or were her observations valid?
Maybe the answer is “both.” If we were talking about anyone other than Joy Reid, that is. Consider the following:

The bottom line:
Joy Reid, who in February laughingly claimed she was “part of a journalistic outfit” wouldn’t recognize journalism if it dragged her out behind the woodshed and kicked the crap out of her for kicking the crap out of it.
For that reason — and call me a cynic (or whatever else tickles your fancy) — I’m gonna go out on a (steady) limb and guess Joy Reid cares more about having Ukraine to exploit than about the plight of the Ukrainian people. I hope I’m wrong.
