In his little more than four years in the United States Senate, Louisiana Republican Sen. John Kennedy has developed a reputation for burning the Democrat Party to a smoldering heap when he’s of the mind to do so. Even better, Kennedy does the torching in the genteel style of a perfectly southern gentleman; which is exactly what he is.
On Wednesday morning, Kennedy was of the mind to do so.
Like clockwork, the Democrat Party dutifully rushed into ridiculous commentary (lies and misrepresentations) during a gun-control debate on the Senate floor on Tuesday morning, less than 24 hours after a madman walked into a supermarket in Boulder, Colorado, and opened fire — killing ten people including a police officer, the father of seven children.
Democrats were only doing what Democrats do after every mass shooting. To paraphrase the words of the “immortal” former Obama stooge Rahm Emanuel, the Democrats sure as hell were not going to allow Monday’s horrific crisis to go to waste — about which, many of them had undoubtedly begun to plot before the shooting was even brought to an end.

Rather than once again launch into the debate about the reality that the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun — law enforcement officer or civilian — let’s go to Sen. Kennedy for his take. Bottom line?
“We don’t need more gun control; we need more idiot control.”
Drops mic, walks off stage.
Sen. Kennedy: U.S. has ‘idiot control problem’ not gun control problem, calls on Congress to enforce existing laws https://t.co/tgegT3O7J2 #OANN

“These killings were terrible,” Kennedy said on Tuesday’s broadcast of “Fox & Friends.” “But,” he said…
“They were horrible. I’m reminded though, that, you know, America is a big country, we’re free. And one of the prices we pay for that freedom is that you’re always going to have some people who abuse it.
“Freedom is risk. What we’ve got to concentrate on is how to control that risk; you’re not going to stop the killings until you stop the killers.”
Preach it, brother.
The Louisiana senator suggested there are ways to stop mass killings — but forcing stricter gun control on law-abiding gun owners isn’t one of them, before busting out one of his trademark spot-on analogies, as he handed the Democrats their fired up his blowtorch.
“You don’t stop drunk drivers by getting rid of all sober drivers, which is what many of my Democratic friends want to do with respect to the Second Amendment.
“In my judgment, we do not need more gun control. We need more idiot control. How do we do that?
“We’ve already tried, the Republicans have, Sen. Grassley, Sen. Cruz had a bill to strengthen our national database.
“We regulate gun ownership in America. If you’re convicted of certain crimes, if you have a tendency to violence, if you’re mentally ill, and you want to buy a gun, your name has to be run through a database.”
It’s ironic isn’t it how Democrats always trot out the “common sense” pretend qualifier?
“Common sense tax reform.” “Common sense immigration reform.” “Common sense gun control.” Yet it was John Kennedy who presented an honest common-sense approach to reducing gun crime. To his point, screwing with the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans is not only not one of them; it’s a fool’s game.
The problem? Congressional Democrats, said the senator.
“The problem is, that the database has huge holes in it. And many federal agencies and state agencies are very cavalier about sending in the names.
“Grassley and Cruz’s bill, which I support, would have tightened up the database and it would have cracked down on people who have guns who shouldn’t have guns.
“You know why the bill didn’t pass? Many of my Democratic colleagues filibustered it.”
And there it is. Which is where it pretty much always ends up. Liberalism is about symbolism over substance, as Rush Limbaugh reminded us on a regular basis.
The Democrat notion of “common sense” gun control is banning weapons that don’t exist.
AR-15s are not so-called “assault rifles,” much less are they the hilarious “weapons of war” label slapped on semi-automatic firearms by the gun-grabber crowd. But banning AR-15s and similar semi-automatic weapons would sure prove to the loony left that boy oh boy, the Democrat Party is looking out for you and your loved ones! Mass shootings will become a thing of the past! All is safe in America once more!
Except no.
Bad people, with even worse intent, will carry out despicable crimes regardless of the weapons available — legally — to carry it out.
But hey, Democrats; slap up a bunch of “Gun-Free Zone” signs all over America, while you’re at it. You know, for “extra protection.”
