ROFL: 'Research' Finds 'Claims That Social Media Companies Censor Conservatives' Are 'Not Supported by Facts'

On today’s episode of “Suspension of Disbelief”, a new “study” found that charges of anti-conservative bias against Big Tech are not only not supported by facts; “research” determined that social media bias “actually cuts in the other direction.” No, really,

As Not the Bee reported it, “a study paid for by Big Tech and based on no data finds conservatives are not censored by Big Tech so I guess that settles it.”

But let’s let left-“leaning” USA Today describe it.

Despite repeated charges of anti-conservative bias from former President Donald Trump and other GOP critics, Facebook, Twitter, and Google’s YouTube are not slanted against right-leaning users, a new report out of New York University found.

NYU? Gotcha. Sounds legit.

Like previous research, “False Accusation: The Unfounded Claim that Social Media Companies Censor Conservatives,” concludes that, rather than censoring conservatives, social media platforms amplify their voices.

Can’t make it up; don’t have to.

Paul Barrett, deputy director of the NYU Stern Center for Business and Human Rights, which released the report on Monday, made the mind-blowing statement.

“Republicans, or more broadly conservatives, have been spreading a form of disinformation on how they’re treated on social media. They complain they’re censored and suppressed but, not only is there not evidence to support that, what evidence exists actually cuts in the other direction,”

Welp, there it is. Not only do Jack Dorsey, Mark Zuckerberg, YouTube CEO Susan Diane Wojcicki, and other social media autocrats not censor conservative content; they are more likely to censor liberal content, instead. Who knew?

In the report, titled False Accusation: The Unfounded Claim that Social Media Companies Censor Conservatives, we learn nonsense like the following.

Conservatives commonly accuse the major social media companies of censoring the political right.

In response to Twitter’s decision on January 8, 2021, to exclude him from the platform, then-President Donald Trump accused the company of ‘banning free speech’ in coordination with ‘the Democrats and Radical Left.’

The claim of anti-conservative animus on the part of social media companies is itself a form of disinformation: a falsehood with no reliable evidence to support it.

How do I put this tactfully? Have these morons who live in their little bubble within the no-longer-hallowed halls of academia ever watched CNN or MSNBC?

Then again if that’s all they watch how do they know what “The Most Trusted Name in News” and PMSNC censors and what they don’t? Most recently, the Hunter Biden scandal was a perfect example.

In a section of the report titled Breaking Down the Bias Claim, this:

The effort purporting to show that the major social media companies suppress conservative views started in earnest in 2016.

Republicans at that time began to promote the idea that because most of these firms’ employees and executives are politically liberal, the platforms themselves must be hostile to conservatives.

Or, as Donald Trump put it in a tweet in May 2020: “The Radical Left is in total command & control of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Google.”

This section explains the evolution of the bias claim and intersperses evidence that undercuts it.

More suspension of disbelief, here:

Republicans have promoted the idea that because most social media employees and executives are politically liberal, the
platforms themselves must be hostile to conservatives.

Apparently, these “un-biased” geniuses didn’t get the memo about the recent Project Veritas undercover audio and/or video of CNN’s Jeff Zucker and Twitter’s Jack Dorsey, in which everything they said flies in the face of this so-called “study.”

As Not the Bee put it, the study is “less research, really, and more like a term paper prepared by a high school sophomore, love-struck with his new teacher.

In this case, the teacher is Craig Newmark, as Fox News reported.

The study was “funded by Craig Newmark, a billionaire tech titan who donated $100,000 to Biden’s campaign victory fund,” wrote Daily Caller investigative reporter Chuck Ross, who first identified Newmark’s political leanings.

Ross noted that NYU did not disclose the Craigslist founder’s political views. Newmark has also donated to a variety of other liberal groups and causes, including the Democratic National Committee itself.

“He donated tens of thousands of dollars to President [Barack] Obama’s campaign, the Hillary Clinton campaign and to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi,” Ross wrote.

In addition to swatting away claims of liberal bias, the study also defended Facebook and Twitter’s decisions to ban President Trump from their platforms following the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

Sweet, huh? A leftist funding leftists to conduct a “study” on whether or not leftists censor conservatives. Again, sounds totally legit to me.
