Given that serious Trump-trashing is a required daily activity on the set of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” guests and regular contributors alike must bring their A game if they even hope to compete with the herculean efforts of Trump-trashing hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski.
One such contributor on Tuesday’s show was Washington Post columnist and “Morning Joe” regular, Eugene Robinson.
And man, did “Gene” bring it.
In a word, Robinson said America under Donald Trump has become the worst “s-hole country” on earth. Let that sink in. Classy, huh? He added, “nobody wants people from” America in their country, now.
Scarborough coyly set the table for Robinson by playing off his equally-Trump-loathing wife, Mika.
“Mika, I was thinking about asking Gene Robinson if he wanted to go on a road trip with me, kind of maybe bring a video camera, do like a buddy movie, a documentary, Gene and Joe’s excellent Adventure. We could go up to Canada. And then I realized —”
Robinson feigned interruption: “We can’t, Joe. We can’t.”
Scarborough wholeheartedly agreed: “They don’t want our types in Canada. Americans [are] not allowed to go there!” After Robinson said “I know,” Scarborough continued the demeaning schtick.
“But then we were talking, Gene, about getting on a boat and going to the Bahamas, because the Bahamas let anybody in; let any American in with money. They’d even let me in. And then, Gene, we can’t even go to the Bahamas. Our money’s not welcome there.
[…]
“I mean, seriously. Did you ever think, Gene, in all of your years, that the United States of America would be in such a poor condition, a Third World condition when it came to health care and the government’s handling of a pandemic, that we wouldn’t be able to go to other countries?”
Set-up complete, Robinson went straight to the gutter.
“It’s just appalling, and shocking, really, that we’re in this position. But this is where we are. We are pariahs. We are, we are the s-hole country that nobody wants people from. That’s us now.”
Robinson was referencing 2018 reports that Trump referred to Haiti and African nations as “sh*thole countries” during a bipartisan DACA meeting at White House. Trump responded by acknowledging that his language was “tough,” but denied that he used the crass descriptor.
The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used. What was really tough was the outlandish proposal made – a big setback for DACA!

So how did Scarborough respond to Robinson? Exactly as you’d expect the Trump-obsessed MSNBCer to respond— condescendingly so.
“Yeah! Donald Trump’s ignorance of history, Donald Trump’s ignorance of medicine, Donald Trump’s ignorance of epidemiology, Donald Trump’s refusal to listen to his experts have put us in this position.”
As is often the case in situations such as this one, I have questions.
What would happen if Fox News host Sean Hannity, for example, and a regular contributor to his show had the same discussion about Barack Obama? If the contributor declared that America under Obama was the “sh*thole country” on the planet, from which no other country would welcome visitors?
How loud and how long would those histrionic fireworks last?
Ironically, CNN host Brian Stelter on Sunday incredulously asserted there are no left-leaning news networks that exist to tear down Trump, as my RedState colleague Kira Davis reported.
STELTER: “When you see entire media companies essentially exist to tear down Joe Biden, is there an equivalent of that on the left, tearing down Trump?”
GUEST: “There really isn’t.”pic.twitter.com/wqT6PruGUk

After Fox News host Tucker Carlson skewered Stelter on Monday, the TDS-riddled host of CNN’s “Reliable Sources” went into near-apoplectic meltdown against, um, Carlson’s facts — as reported by RedState’s Sister Toldjah.
Funny how neither I nor CNN said what you, uh, just claimed we said. I merely asked a question, in the middle of a discussion about right-wing talk radio stars that rant instead of report. https://t.co/ThvVXnmHr9

The ridiculousness of Stelter’s bizarre notion was not lost on Fox’s Greg Gutfeld, who teamed up with Carlson, also on Monday, to filet Stelter again, as I covered, earlier today.

The hypocrisy of the Left is equaled only by its complete lack of self-awareness. Thankfully, people like Joe Scarborough and Brian Stelter continue to display that hypocrisy and lack of self-awareness on a daily basis, which not only makes my job easy, but a whole lot of fun.
Even in the “sh*thole” America of Donald Trump.
