Earlier this year, Ricky Gervais torched Hollywood elites to a charcoal briquette during his opening monologue at the Golden Globe Awards ceremony. Now, six month later, Gervais has explained why he did it.

But first let’s revisit the epic takedown of the night, as heavyweights like Tom Hanks, Robert DeNero, Al Pacino, and Leonardo DiCaprio sat mere feet away. The look on Hanks’s face was an instant classic.

If you do win an award tonight, don’t use it as a political platform to make a political speech. You’re in no position to lecture the public about anything, you know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg. So, if you win, come up, accept your little award, thank your agent and your God — and f*** off, okay?

Hollywood wasn’t alone. Gervais skewered Apple, Amazon, and Disney, as well. And yes, Apple CEO Tim Cook was in attendance.

Apple roared into the TV game with ‘The Morning Show,’ a superb drama about the importance of dignity and doing the right thing — made by a company that runs sweatshops in China.

Well, you say you’re woke but the companies you work for in China — unbelievable. Apple, Amazon, Disney. If ISIS started a streaming service you’d call your agent, wouldn’t you?

So why did Ricky bite the hand that feeds him, so hard? First of all, because he’s Ricky. Second, because only he could do it.

As reported by Fox News, Gervais told Yahoo Entertainment it was “quite zeitgeisty.”

I suppose because people were tired of being lectured by multimillionaires telling them to recycle when they’re flying around in private jets. So I think people were tired of the hypocrisy.

Ya think? Given that the hypocrisy of the Left knows no bounds, anyway, hypocrites like Leonard DiCaprio, who fly around the world in private jets and sail their yachts, lecturing the rest of us about “global warming,” blow the doors of hypocrisy on a regular basis.

Given how believable Gervais is when he’s in the middle dropping MOAB after MOAB on Hollywood celebrities and other targets, millions of viewers that night in January no doubt wondered whether or not he believed the scorching ridicule he was raining down.

Gervais didn’t answer the question during his interview with Yahoo Entertainment, choosing instead to leave us wondering.

I’ll often take a complete opposite stance to what I actually believe if it makes the joke better. I’ll pretend to be right-wing, left-wing or no-wing! It depends on the joke.

Personally, I hope he meant every cringeworthy minute of it.

Even if not, for millions of viewers seated on couches all over America watching smug Hollywood heavyweights who earn millions of dollars pretending to be other people, being told exactly what many us would love to tell them ourselves, it was well worth the price of admission.

Why so? Because it would feel awesome.
