Nothing that happens in Mordor is hid from the eye of Sauron.  Of course the White House knew about Jonathan Gruber’s on-the-record tell-all detailing How We Shoved Obamacare Down Your Throats.  The West Wing of Barad Dûr has plans within plans for such minor contingencies.

Note that these remarks surfacing didn’t stop President Obama from his Grand Asia Excursion, where he traded awkward bromance moments with Vladimir Putin, modeled the new Star Trek wardrobe, and vacationed in Brisbane.  All while crowing about how he negotiated a historic victory on Global Warming with China, who might stop increasing its enormous carbon footprint in the next 15 years, in exchange for the U.S. cutting ours by 26 percent in 10 years.  Clearly Obama was not distracted by such trifles as old news on Obamacare.

In the 8 days since video of Gruber’s Eingeständnis, the mainstream media has indeed followed the Plan.

1. Ignore the story;
2. Wait for guidance;
3. Conclude that it doesn’t matter.

Only conservative websites, talk radio, and Fox News have spent significant airtime on Gruber, the rest have been largely mum.  Step 1, ignore the story.

As of Saturday afternoon and a full eight days after the first video of ObamaCare architect Jonathan Gruber surfaced, major broadcast networks ABC and NBC and the Los Angeles Times have persisted in keeping their audiences in the dark on this story.

ABC News focused its “all you need to know” web post on Gruber’s “apology”.  Step 2, guidance from Mordor.

Has he apologized?

Yes, earlier this week, but before all six videos were released, Gruber appeared on MSNBC, telling Ronan Farrow his words had been an “off the cuff” mistake.

“The comments in the video were made at an academic conference,” Gruber said. “I was speaking off the cuff and I basically spoke inappropriately and I regret having made those comments.” Gruber has not responded to ABC News’ request for comment, made through MIT.

Gruber was off the cuff.  Eight times, and probably many more that haven’t been committed to video.  I wonder what he said when he was really being honest and off the cuff.

MSDNC MSNBC featured [mc_name name=’Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’P000197′ ]’s response:  “Let’s put Jonathan Gruber aside.”  Nothing to see here.  Never heard of the man.  He never wrote any of the ACA bill.  Move along.

Finally, The Washington Post concluded that the whole thing doesn’t matter anyway.  From the Post’s lofty beltway tower, facing Barad Dûr, only public opinion can change Obamacare.  Step 3, it doesn’t matter anyway.

If anything can change that, it is far more likely to be something that has a personal impact on lots of Americans — like large premium increases or canceled plans. And if Obamacare is dismantled, it will be because the GOP has Congressional majorities and a president who wants to do it.  That means no earlier than 2017.

Apparently the WaPo newsroom staff has been binge-watching House of Cards episodes instead of looking at real poll data.  Support for Obamacare has been in free-fall for a year now, with no parachute in the pack.  Obamacare is cratering and the media lapdogs are pretending there’s a Deus ex machina to save it.

It’s easy to get depressed thinking that the WaPo analysis may be right.  Gruber may be right.  American voters may be just too disinterested and uneducated on the issues to care beyond their next paycheck.  Now we’ve heard them publicly reveal what they actually believe:  that the elites know best and Mordor is not so bad in the summertime.

But I know better.  It does matter.  We’ve had enough, and this Gruber thing isn’t going to go away for the Democrats.  Neither will the “typos”, and all the other contemptuous acts against the American people committed by the Obama administration.  I can’t wait for 2015—it can’t get here soon enough, because it comes to us like Gandalf the White: at the turning of the tide.
