According to the press reports, the Republican-led House of Representatives [emphasis added…for emphasis] appears ready to vote on Friday over whether to aid and abet Barack Obama by giving him “fast-track” authority (aka Trade Promotion Authority, or TPA) on the free-trade monstrosity known as the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
This, of course, follows the “bi-partisan” Senate vote to grant Obama fast-track authority in May.
While unions (and many Democrats) have long opposed ObamaTrade, they are not the only ones opposed to fast-tracking the free-trade deal.
For a host of reasons (unrelated to unions by the way), conservative groups are also opposed to fast-tracking ObamaCare.
The Eagle Forum is urging its readers on Facebook to call their representatives to urge them to vote against fast-track, stating:
President Obama and Republican leaders continue to twist arms in the House of Representatives in an effort to pass trade promotion authority (TPA), or fast-track. American Action Forum, a group close to House Speaker [mc_name name=’Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’B000589′ ] (R-OH), will spend $900,000 to pressure GOP congressmen into voting for fast-track. A vote on the measure could take place by the end of this week.
Over the last few weeks, more and more details are being revealed (ala wikileaks) about the non trade-related items contained within the secretive document.
For example, in addition to the privacy threats exposed by Forbes writer Emma Woollacott, Breitbart reporter Alex Swoyer reveals that “technically any Republican voting for Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) that would fast-track trade deals like the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal would technically also be voting to massively expand President Obama’s executive authority when it comes to immigration matters [emphasis added].”
In addition, President Obama said that “enforcing climate change regulations will indeed be part of the Trans-Pacific Partnership,” according to the American Thinker.
In answer to the question, ‘Was there ever a politician who could not be bought?‘ the Guardian provides a list of payments donations made to Senators who voted in May to give Obama fast-track authority on ObamaTrade :
Using data from the Federal Election Commission, this chart shows all donations that corporate members of the US Business Coalition for TPP made to US Senate campaigns between January and March 2015, when fast-tracking the TPP was being debated in the Senate:
- Out of the total $1,148,971 given, an average of $17,676.48 was donated to each of the 65 “yea” votes.
- The average Republican member received $19,673.28 from corporate TPP supporters.
- The average Democrat received $9,689.23 from those same donors.
The amounts given rise dramatically when looking at how much each senator running for re-election received.
Time is running short for Americans to stop John Boehner from aiding and abetting Barack Obama by giving him fast-track authority on ObamaTrade.
