Jake Tapper raised eyebrows on Sunday with a shockingly hypocritical two tweet rant on the “unprecedented smear campaign against rivals” coming from President Trump and his team.

2/ These smear campaigns are unmoored from reality. They're deranged and indecent and seem designed at least in part to distract us from the horrific death, health, and economic crisis caused by the pandemic. The pandemic, which impacts you, is what we will continue to focus on.

The stunning lack of self-awareness inspired a litany of disbelieving and sarcastic responses.

Writer Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) responded: “Yes, smear campaigns are bad. I can think of a couple that comes to mind just this week and going back to last year. Would you like to hear them?”

NRO’s David Harsanyi asked Tapper to spare us all the fake outrage, saying “This is gaslighting: conflate legitimately stupid actions — like retweeting of memes — with accusations of wrongdoing for which there is tons of evidence — “Obamagate.” Moreover, you’ve covered every unsubstantiated smear for four years. Spare us the fake outrage.”

The Daily Caller’s Greg Price took it upon himself dig into that memory hole CNN seems to be so fond of and dig up some helpful reminders for Mr. Tapper.

The hostility that is growing between the mainstream media and the average American can be summed up in Tapper’s two-tweet trip into terrifically terrible hypocrisy.
