Singer Wants to Boycott Halftime Show Over Salvation Army 'Homophobia' but There's Only One Problem With That...

Pop singer Ellie Goulding is threatening to back out of a scheduled performance at a Dallas Cowboys game over accusations of homophobia and transphobia against The Salvation Army.

The celebrity chanteuse is slated to perform the halftime show at the Cowboys v. Bills game on Thanksgiving Day. It will air on CBS. The Thanksgiving Day game is also traditionally the launch of the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign, a charitable giving program who’s hallmark red kettle has become a symbol of the Christmas season on American streets.

Goulding posted her threat to boycott after fans criticized her for a post in which she can be seen volunteering with at a New York Salvation Army center. They claimed the historic charity is “transphobic” and “homophobic”.

“Upon researching this, I have reached out to The Salvation Army and said that I would have no choice but to pull out unless they very quickly make a solid, committed pledge or donation to the LGBTQ community,” she wrote on social media, via the Dallas Morning News. “I am a committed philanthropist as you probably know, and my heart has always been in helping the homeless, but supporting an anti-LGBTQ charity is clearly not something I would ever intentionally do. Thank you for drawing my attention to this.”

Everyone loves a “woke” celebrity these days, but there’s only one problem…the Salvation Army goes to great pains on their own website to explicitly express their program support for LGBTQ youth.

Not only do they include statistics about food insecurity and suicide rates among LGBTQ youth, they actually provide specific donation options for givers to choose from. Ellie Goulding is threatening to boycott a charitable organization that gives to the LGBTQ community unless they donate to a charity that gives to the LGBTQ community.

You can’t make this stuff up.

One can only imagine that the only reason anyone would accuse the Salvation Army of being LGBTQ-phobic is because they are a Christian organization. It certainly isn’t based in any reality and a simple five second web search could have yielded the truth.

But there aren’t many Instagram “likes” in the truth, so celebrities like Goulding will continue to virtue signal without exercising one itoa of curiosity, so long as the social media ticks keep going up.
