In his address Tuesday night President Trump vocalized the strongest support to date by a sitting president for the concept of school choice. POTUS called education the “civil rights issue of our time” and expressed his support for federal funding of “scholarships” so parents and children can have equal access to successful schools regardless of geography or zip code.
This mention of school choice in an address to congress by a sitting president is a huge boon for school choice activists and struggling students and parents across the country.
As a school choice activist for years now, I don’t approve of any new federal programs or bureaucracy but I do find the idea of diverting funds from union-strangled programs to support choice programs across the nation quite delightful. It’s a relief to hear the leader of the free world recognize that parents and students deserve the right to choose their own path when it comes to education.
